Buying a DVD writer
I am looking to by a dvd writer. Main use will be to "back up" ps2 games. can anyone advise me on the best writers around. UK suppliers would also be a great help. Please mail me at [email protected]
Thanx Gentle |
Everyone seems to go for the Pioneer A0x series for PS2 games. The latest is the A05 - try www.pricewatch.co.uk
|
The Pioneer A05 is AWESOME...... That is the one I would rec...:)
It also works flawlessly for DVD movies also..... There are a few people using the new Sony dvd burner (DRU500 I think is the model) with good outcomes also..... |
gentle - still got those links I posted for dvd-r online UK suppliers, A04/A05 from them.
|
Toshiba SD-5002 is great!
Go with the Toshiba SD-R5002! I got mine a month ago and it works GREAT! best price around too! I only paid 225 USD for mine!
I backup all my ps2 games (they work perfect on my magic 3 ps2, as well as my brothers no solder chiped ps2), I put 6 ccd images on a dvd-r, works great for everything I could think of. never had a single problem with it. :-) |
The Toshiba drive is a excellent choice.....(Basically Identical to the Pioneer A04).
The only reason I personally got the A05 was for the 4X DVD-R write speed...... If you have no use for 4X, then the A04 or Toshiba would be the best bet.....(As they have both came down substantially in price) |
yep!
Yeah, the 4X speed would be nice but have they even come out with 4x disks that are priced reasonably???? Are they more expensive than regular 1x or 2x media?
|
Yeah.... 4X discs are out BUT they are high in price right now...
Will take a little while befor the prices get down to a reasonable level.... |
not really!
actually, the toshiba SDR-5002 is MUCH better than the AO4 drive! and in a couple way it's even better than the AO5!!! ok, the ao4 has only a 8x cd-write speed, the toshiba has 16x! same as the ao5! the toshiba has 10x cd-rw write, the a05 only has 8x! the toshiba has 40x cd-rom read speed, the ao5 only has 32x! Now I'm not saying the sdr-5002 is better than the a05 because of the 4x dvd-r and 2x dvd-rw but for the price, the toshiba is a GREAT drive with awesome features! I paid 225 for my brand new, from the store sdr-5002, the a04 was 280! I'm not even gonna say what the a05 was!!! and the 4x speed at this point isn't enough for me to spend tons more money cause the disks are too expensive and I'd end up just using 2x ones anyways!
|
BUT why would you use either of the drives for cd burning.... Neither can copy sub channel data.......
|
Quote:
BTW> I used clone cd to copy the games. the sub data was all there, read and burned back fine... I even tested it on AVP 2 which I know won't work w/o the sub data, just cause I was curious about what you said and it came out perfect 1 :1! |
Hmmm... So your dvd writer can write cd's in RAW 96 mode.....
Hell, I may have to try it with my A05..... I have not burned a single cd with my A05. I always use my cd burner instead.... I will try it on the A05 and let you know how it works....:D |
yeah lemme know how it comes out, a buddy of mine who owns a game/rental/anime shop is looking to get a dvd-rw. (he's the one who moded my ps2) I wanna be able to tell him which one to get for sure...
|
Ok..... The A05 does the job perfectly also...:)
So now there is 3 awesome drives to choose from.... So now it makes your friends choice a little harder....:D |
Told you so! lol jk! :) didn't it just fly through those errors! so the A04 can burn sub data too?
