PS2 Laser losing
 

Hi,

My ps2 is: SCPH-30004 PAL + Messiah.

I have been using it for almost 9 months now, and it works perfectly. But recently, games like “GTAIII: Vice City”, “NFS: Hot Pursuit 2”, “Onimusha 2” and “Suikoden III” are causing great grief.

“GTAIII: Vice City” is a Golden DVD from the bottom.
“NFS: Hot Pursuit 2” is a Golden DVD from the bottom.
“Onimusha 2” is a Silver DVD from the bottom.
“Suikoden III” is a Golden DVD from the bottom.

Now, initially, here in Saudi Arabia, Golden DVDs came (illegal copies). But now, there are silver among them. My PS2 used to read golden easily. But recently, it failed big-time at reading “GTAIII: Vice City”. Although, “NFS: Hot Pursuit 2” is also golden and worked fine.

“Onimusha 2” is silver and it sometime refuses to read it. Similarly, “Suikoden III” is golden and it literally hangs while playing the opening movie.

Everything was perfect before I tried “GTAIII: Vice City”. After trying “GTAIII: Vice City”, all games started to hang and PS2 itself started to give choppy performance. I don’t get it. Is it the lens?
My latest game was “GTAIII: Vice City”. I’ve now tried 7 copies of them but none work. And the games that worked are now choppy. AR2 Disk works perfectly. And so does old CD games (not DVDs)

first easiest thing to try is a cdvd lens cleaner
the one which is a cd with little brushes on it (the dvd laser much more sensitive then cd is)

if still no good try adjusting dvd pot b careful over adjusting will fry it

or buy new laser and replace it
