Look on the back of your PS2.... There is a number on the back that begins with SCPH-######.... What is that number, and does it have a R at the end....

PAL (UK)
30002/3/4 v1-3 = 10 Screws on base of PS2
30002/3/4 v4 = 8 Screws on base of PS2
30002R/3R/4R v4 = 8 Screws on base of PS2 & 2 screws in upper rim of expansion bay
30002R/3R/4R v5/v6 = 8 Screws on base of PS2 & 3 screws in upper rim of expansion bay
39002/3/4 v7 = 8 Screws on base of PS2 & 3 screws in upper rim of expansion bay

(I got this info from a "Charlie post" some time ago)

USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U1
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U2
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U3
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U4
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U5

As it states in PSX_Paul's post:

8 Screws on base of PS2 & 2 screws in upper rim of expansion bay would be a V4....

8 Screws on base of PS2 & 3 screws in upper rim of expansion bay would be a V5....

Check the expansion bay and see how many screws are there...
