Has anyone tried Princo DVD-R's on PS2???
Does anyone know if Princo DVD-R's will play on PS2's alright???
I've seen Princo DVD-R's fairly cheap and would like to look into purchasing those, but want to know people's experience's with Princo DVD-R's and PS2's.... Please, spare no detail. Cheers. |
I tried a few princos backing up Medal of Honour PS2 game. Using Primo DVD and Nero, all burnt at 1x speed. I experienced skipping throughout the game.
I now only use Traxdata DVD-R for PS2 backups, they are also fairly cheap and work perfect. |
princo suck stay well clear

So far all I have used for burning are white-top Princo's and they play fine for movies and so far all my games. Keep in mind my system is fairly new (v5 ntsc USA/CAN) and is kept in pristine condition. Also, I have only been burning DVD's for about 10 days so I can't comment on long term use.

Alot of people use princo's and report good results burning at 1x. I like TDK and Verbatim. They do cost more but make better quality backups.

On MINE...... They work flawlessly.... (Branded White Top) Work flawlessly for movies also...... I love them..... They are cheap and work great.... |
Vast difference between the newer consoles (v7) and the older ones for reading Princo. My guess is that guy has a v4 console or below.
My experience has been both Xbox and v7 PS2 will read Princo media no problem. They can be had for dirt cheap (less then $0.60/disc if you buy in big qtys) at allmediaoutlet.com. |
Princo seems to have quality control issues....
I picked up a 25pk ( 5 boxes of 5 w/jewels ) off of ebay. The first couple worked ok... MK:Deadly Alliance has some skipping problems during movies. I got to the 3rd box, and so far 3 of them were BAD discs. Errored out during writing ( a05 drive using RecordNow Max ). It was NOT a buffer underrun error either. The media just crapped out. I have a v7 PS2 btw. Not sure if maybe I just got a bad batch, but I think it's worth the extra for TDK/Verbatim quality. I wouldn't mind trying some of the supposedly perfect Traxdata, but nobody ships them to the USA. Go figure. |
They're different.
If you get them from certain suppliers (allmediaoutlet, for example), they'll be the white top, branded kind. Ebay sellers (99% of them) are selling something different. Princo MAKES media for a *lot* of people. You'll see things like "DVD-R Made By Princo", or "DVD-R by Princo" in the description that lets you know you're getting one of their OEM deals. *I*, personally, have not had an issue. I bought a 50 pack from allmediaoutlet, and I've burned... 24 of them so far. Probably 2/3 are X-Box games, and 1/3 are PS2 games - not a single one has failed on me. (Pioneer A-04 writer, Xbox 1.0 w/Thompson drive and PS2 v7 NTSC). Equally, though, I had success with the Pioneer media that came with the drive, when some people said they didn't. There are posts on xbox-scene.com with people having problems with Verbatim (and Ebayed Princos as well, incidentally) - your mileage may vary. The difference is that, at less than $1 per disc, the Princo isn't horribly expensive if you end up getting a less-than-perfect success rate. Spend more on the Verbatims and have THEM fail, and you'll be pissed. ;) Your mileage may vary. |
The NEW Riteks are AWESOME..... They are less expensive than Princos (which is hard to beleive) , and use the SAME dye as Traxdata..... BUT BE WARNED..... Ritek operates the same as Princo. They make hundreds of different discs...

I buy mine from ebay... I deal with a certain seller all the time...So I know I'm getting the good ones....
