recent nero won't show 8x as an option
 

Ever since about version 5.5.5.1, I have been unable to choose 8x in the burn dialog of Nero (only 4x, 2x and 1x appear as choices).

I have a Matsushita/Panasonic CW-7503 20x8 burner.

Earlier Nero versions work fine, and in the CDR choose dialog it is detected as an 8x burner. I have even tried the latest 5.5.6.9 version of Nero.

Anyone got any ideas? I have the latest drive firmware (1.09)

Nero looks at the ATIP, so far as I know and selects a burn speed according to the manufacturer's info. If it's CD-RW it's limited to 4x anyway unless it's special media.

I think that's one possibility.
