Getting online with xbox
 

I have a cable modem and a hub its all connected correctly according to gamespy. My problem is that my xbox will not recognize the connection. To link the xbox to the pc I am using the system link. Is that where I am going wrong? Should I be using a ether cable rj45 i think. And yes i have all the software from gamespy. I just want to play halo.

you dont hook up the xbox to the PC, you hook the xbox up to the router/hub. Just as if you were going to go onthe internet with your xbox.

Sorry sorry sorry. I am connecting the xbox to the hub. I am just connecting it with a system link cable. I was wondering if you need a ether cable thats all. Just want to know before i spend my money?

I never tried a system link cable, but I've always used a reguler network cable. I just unplugged it from my other PC into my xbox.

The "System Link Cable" is nothing more than a cross-over CAT5 cable. Do you see a link light on the hub itself? (What kind of hub is it) if you do not see a link light, you need a straight-thru ethernet cable. (Basically any ethernet cable)

I almost had the same problem, my friend wanted to connect using a system link cable but it wouldn't work. I use a RJ45 cable to connect my Xbox to the hub and it works fine for me. :D

In order to connect the xbox to a hub u need a straight through cable. U only use crossover or the system link cable to connect 2 xboxs 2gether without using a hub, router, or switch. If u connect to any device use a straight through cable. Unless u are using 2 Nic cards in one computer and u want to use internet connection sharing then use a crossover to connect the xbox to the computer.

You can use the system link cable to connect to a hub if you plug it into the uplink port if one exists. Usually the uplink port is shared with a regular port. The sytem link cable, as stated, is a cross over cable. The transmit and recieve lines are switched allowing point to point connections without a hub or switch.

The uplink port assumes you are using a straight through cable from another hub port. Or it could be from a xbox or pc with a crossover cable.
