Segagen/Smash Pack Problem
 

Hi again.Using Echelons method to selfboot segagen, Lemecs selfboot pack, cdrwin, LBA 0,11700, using US *.bin roms with <28 characters, Verbatim media & having a healthy Dreamcast & Multisession capable burner, so everything should be okay...........but its not:mad:


It selfboots nicely,but when i press Start on a rom, the emu will restart and take me back to the SEGA logo.What am i doing wrong? Im not asking for generic help such as "try burning it @ 2x" or "use utopia". All non generic ideas are welcome :)

If my memory serves me well, I think I've heard of something special to selfboot this one. I wonder if you should NOT binhack 1st_read.bin.

Yeah you are right, *.bins dont need any hack if the LBA is 11700. I was aware of that, so tried cdrwin (11700,no hack) and cdrecord (11702,all bins hacked)........nothing.Im not a newbie,and tried everything i know BUT binhacking everything (all bins) to 0,0 values and using bin2boot. Do you think that might work? I have dloaded a selfbootable Segagen that actually works,and the files in there seem to have different sizes than mines (??) so im very confused.Im pretty sure of being using the right packs : Segagen echelon original pack + Lemecs selfboot one. It works perfectly in my 2 Dreamcasts until i choose a rom,its very weird,cause i have made selfboots using Echelon a LOT of times with exactly the same settings,they always work.

Hey Megalexxx i know u are very knowledgeable,so i was thinking of sending my files to you so you can give it a try yourself. That would be MUCH appreciated. Expect like 4mbs or so and it would take 5 minutes or less and a CD ;)
Another way would be to send you both packs (the one im using and the one that works) so you can compare them.

Have you tried to use Bin2Boot WITHOUT binhacking anything ?
Bin2Boot binhacks 1st_read.bin on its own.

By the way, you need to binhack all bin files containing "CD001" ONLY, even if your LBA value is 11700. My burner makes LBA=11702. Some others make LBA=11700, but you don't know if your bin files are already hacked to 11700 or 11702, so you'd better binhack them anyway. Most of non selfboot game have LBA value = 46000...

Hmmm your reply gave me some ideas,cause the Echelons bins are binhacked to 11700,but im not sure Lemecs are also,so i will try again with Echelons method (since bin2boot will always make a coaster,hacked bins or not) with all CD001 files hacked to 11700 (thats the value my burner gives).I will post soon again.TY again :)

Hmm i'm gonna try and burn the smash pack rom loader in a day or so - the lemec one... I'll post again if it works.

I followed the instructions carefully, binhacked 1st_read.bin.... burned it with cdrecord. Unfortunately it didn't work- after the sega screen it resets the dc.:confused:

I self booted those no problem with bin2boot.

What did you do? MKISOFS and then bin2boot? Could u plz send over here your segagen (no roms of course) + small text with what u did? Im no noobie,dont need a echelon tutorial,i bet you know what i mean... ;) PLZ tell me what burner you have...THX in advance.

Yeah could you plz explain the process, i've tried bin2boot but it didnt work. 4 coasters :( tried no hack, hack, scramble, binhack everything there is, well almost...
Or if you'd be kind enough to send me the emulator without the roms of course.

I tried it with Echelon's Rom-Loader Pack (without roms), and with the BIN-files, contained at the "full" ISO (within roms), binhacked and not binhacked...

Either the Dreamcast reboots by loading roms, or the rom-browser doesn't show any file.

Could you send a tutorial, how to hack these bins? Or the changed bins (@ LBA 11702) ;-)

I did it with cdrecord. (burn dummy-audiotrack usw.), I think bin2boot doesn't work for this.

Just use binhack.exe to hack following files to the right LBA (probably its 11702):

Ginreset.bin
Manifest.bin
Mde_us.bin
1st_read.bin

IP.bin have to be write-protected (Error message "IP.bin could not be written"), just for hacking 1st_read.bin
it must not!

If that is done go on just as usual. (make ISO with the same LBA you hacked the BINs before)

It's like burning a normal DC-Game, just have to binhack 3 extra-BINs.

Thats cool,Thoblen,very cool indeed....When you say "probably" i hope you mean "for sure 11702" ;) What loader are you using (and where did you get it from)? Lemec one is way better,you know :) I downloaded a working segagen and it seemed to have been selfbooted using bin2boot,cause there is no audio and the boot track is the second one,so it works,its just we dunno how ;)

Ill try what you say as soon as you tell me what loader you are using...BTW those are the files i used to binhack (11700 - CDRWin) but always make "u_choose_the_rom_and_i_will_reset"- type coasters.
