Is my problem due to Copyprotection?

I am having some problems with a couple of recent games.

I have a Creative CD5223E 52x reader and Sony CRX140E Burner, I've tried to install the troublesome games using both drives and they install fine.

Problem is on launching the game all I get is a quick splash screen then nothing. No lock up, no BSOD.

I've tried everything. Is this a common symptom of having a couple of drives that can't read the protection?

If so, if I were to buy a burner listed on the CloneCD page that can supposedly copy many of the protections out there, does this mean it will be able to read/run the original application to or just the copy of it that you burn?

I am soooo lost, I just want to be able to run these games but I've spent three days with no progress.

Any insight you could provide would be hugely appeciated.

Best regards, and thanx in advance.

So what about the originals?

Thank you for the reply. So, if I go buy a current CDRW drive that can handle Safedisc does this mean it will be able to read and play the original games that are problematic or do I have to burn copies and use the copy?

The games that have given me problems recently are Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind and Divine Divinity.

Thanks again.

Will they play originals?

Thank you for the recommedations.

Question: Will these drives only read/play burned copies of these games or (since they can read safedisc, etc.) Will they be able to successfully play the original disc so that I don't have to make a copy?
