Stupid Question

This is a dumb question, but here it is:

I have a registered version of CloneCD. In gamecopyworld, many protections listed say that CCD can copy a disc with said protection. Does this mean I can make a copy without using cracks? When do I have to use a crack?

See, I told you it was a dumb question. I read the stickies, but maybe not thuroughly enough to find this info. Sorry if it's in there. :o

Yes and No.
The ability to copy the protections is hardware dependent. If you have a look at the Clone CD site under supported writers you will find details about your drive's capabilities.

The most popular protection, Safedisk 2, requires your burner to have one sheep in the EFM scale (you can copy Safedisk upto 2.4), or two sheep (you can copy all known Safedisks.)

Securom requires you to be able to read and write subchannel data.

Ok, thanks

I have a Lite-on 48x/24x/48x drive, it's pretty new. I don't think it's listed on the cloneCD list, wasn't there last time I checked. I assumed it was because it's so new, but I could be wrong.

Yes, LiteOns are known for their cloning capabilities.
Meaby you can find info about your writer at www.cdfreaks.com .

Does this mean no crack after burn

So, if my hardware has one or two sheeps in the CCD spreadsheet and I burn the backup, does this mean it will play (not just install) w/o the need for a fixed exe or no cd patch?

I have burned backups of my extensive game collection becuause I've got small children, but they always install but never run unless I hit them with a no-cd or fixed exe.

Would a "two sheep" compatible reader/recorder be able to actually run the original w/o need for backing up?

Thanx in advance.

Dazzl

Thanks for the replies, but I'm still confused about what the cracks are for. When do I need to use one?

JoyBoy 23-09-2002 18:42

Piledriver Bob, basically u will only ever need to use cracks when u cant make perfect 1:1 backups or when u get sick of constantly inserting the cd into the rom drive. Because u have a good burner there, I wouldnt worry about em.

That's exactly the info I was looking for, thanks a lot!
