dvd to dvd

Has anybody made a successful dvd backup of a movie that is playable in a standalone dvd player?

This is my plan:

Step 1: Rip the movie SmartRipper
Step 2: Remove all the extras and bonus shit so there's only the movie left.
Step 3: Burn it back to dvdr just as a data disc using keeping the same file and directory structure.

Has anybody attempted this process?

Thoughts would be helpful.

Cheers

i don't don't know where u r from but where i'm from u can't do a dvd 2 dvd copy if the source is greater than 4.7Gb - which is a huge percentage of the movies available.

Also if i'm using 1 disc per movie i may as well buy the original package. I've successfully backup up a movie using the procedure on dvd2dvdr.com. The original movie file was 4.2Gb and it was re-encoded down to 3.2Gb with no visible loss of quality (the audio file is a further 300Mb). My next aim is to put 2 movies onto the 1 disc.

Well 4.7 gig Movies are Dual layer. The Max burn size on the 4.7gig DVD-R's are 4.38 to be exact..Once hits above that you're running into Dual layer..

that's right A03...
4.7Gb = 4.38Gb
just like 1.44Mb = 1.38Mb
but we don't go and call a 1.44Mb floppy disc a 1.38Mb floppy disc.
and it's the same with hard drives.

My point that i was making in my last post is that u can't simply do a 1 to 1 copy of a dvd. How many movies have u seen that aren't dual layer? With the exception of music, anime, cartoon and the 'golden-oldies' there isn't any.

I see you're point, i should've put 4.38Gb, for anybody who read the post and got confused, I apologize.

Well like you said making 1:1 copy isn't a problem for Animes..
For example I made a Exact duplicate off the original for SDF Macross 9 DVD Set by animeigo..All I did was make a image off the original and burn it on the 9 DVD-R's..They work fine..It goes for almost for animes that aren't protected..Pioneers are Bit**es..

u bas***d....
i want that collection so badly but it's not out here in oz yet and our dollar is trading shit with US dollar

You want? Email me..I got a Extra DVD-R Set I'm trying to get rid of..It's $350.00 MSRP..I'll work out a deal with you for good price..
Real dirt cheap.. :D

dusted 28-08-2002 20:29

it'll be available by the end of the year here

this may seem weird but with Robotech i'd rather buy it and have the originals than copy it

but thanks anyway

A03 28-08-2002 20:32

Well to be technical it's not Robotech..It's Macross..I'm a Anime junkie..Robotech is just a name US cooked up..And even went through the extreme length to change the names for the characters..

dusted 28-08-2002 20:40

yeah i know, the 3 separate and unrelated Japanese series formed into a big anime which was called Robotech.

It what i grew up on, Robotech and Star Blazers and Astro-Boy and Battle Of The Planets.

Great anime - not this Dragonball Z crap that's on nowadays

A03 28-08-2002 20:59

Well, let's not bash DBZ..I'm not a super fan of DBZ but the Fu**in trend in the US made it even more worse than what it is for Akira Toriyama..
The DB series has 153 episodes, DBZ has 291 and DBGT(Somewhat Good) has 64 episodes.
Personally I think it's good but wait till the Bandwagon trend drops then you wil find the true fans and just a wanna be's.
Bottom line is DB series is good but the US companies chop Animes into pieces for $$$$ it will make..

oooooooh 03-09-2002 10:24
