DVD Mods
Will an SBox and AR2 be suitable for playing backups of DVD games?
Also will there be any problems viewing DVD movies on the PS2 with this combination? Thanks |
You will not be able to play DVD backups. This is because the GS or AR2 have a TOC limit of 640MB. A DVD has a TOC of about 2GB+. This means with my calculation the DVD is 1360MB too big for the AR2/GS to boot :( You will still be able to play DVD's though...
Get a Messiah or Magic 2 chip - they play anything you throw at them - NO SWAP. Don't mess around with swapping - get a decent chip - You won't regret it! Summary: ------------- Play DVD-R backups = No Play CD-R Backups = Yes but only up to 640MB. Nothing more. Play DVD's = Yes but no DVD-R games! |
Nope the Sbox will not play dvd-r games whatsoever. It does not support the dual swap.
Other modchips do. Magic 2 is a very good nonswap chip. Tyler! |
LISTEN to what TylerDurden and lufcfan are telling you.... Stay away from those crap chips...... Get a Messiah or Magic 2..... Then you don't have to ask these type of questions....(Because they play EVERYTHING)......
 |
Thanks all. I'll investigate the best place to get one or the other.
Cheers Del |
if by one or the other you mean messiah or magic 2 then charlie_ps2 and dust2dust are your men - very reliable and trusted sources by many on this forum.

A somewhat long time delay in replying to these posts, but just so everyone knows what happens:
1. I tried fitting a messiah myself and things went toes up. 2. Since then I brought a PS2 from Charlie_PS2 with a messiah fitted and its kicking b*utt. 3. My original PS2 is in for repair (hopefully) Conclusion if your not 100% sure when fitting a messiah or magic 2 have a word with Charlie or Dust2Dust they know the right people for the job. |
