Labels?

Has anyone else had problems with thier copies after putting labels on the discs. Ever since I labelled a few dvd-rs they hardly load and if they do they take forever. I read a few post where people said it was a problem for them, i'm looking for anyone who has.

thanks

Yes labeling DVD-R's has long been a problem. DVD-R's are very sensitive (especially the very cheap ones) if you put a label on it using a stomper then you have a very good chance that you will damage the upper surface of the disc. The upper surface of the disc is the critcal part of the disc if that gets scratched then your dvd-r is worthless.

Guess I shouldn't have label them all at one time then. Thanks for the reply. I look at the discs too (since you mentioned the cheap factor) the labeled compusa disc stopped working after the label but the verbatium disc still works well.

Thanks again

Although all my cd-s and dvd-rs are all labeled and i have no problem at all, some people told me that they experienced problems with labels something has to do with the reflectibility of the laser??

using a stomper is a bad idea those stickers u get with it are quite heavy and will certainly un-ballance a cd/dvd that is spinning fast.

I draw up a circle in photoshop (11.7cm I think) add my graphics ect and then print on a very lightwight paper, I then cut it out and spray the back lightly with a contact adhesive, laying the circle over the disc by hand a smoothing out all the air bubbles, cut the center with a scalpel and bobs your uncle, I have had no problems so far.

because the contact spray is light you can remore it after anyway if u do have any problems.

Interesting ideas, but once I got a sticker label stuck in my CD-ROM and I've decided stickers aren't too good of an idea.

I find using a black magic marker works well too!

elkayps2 your label solution sounds like a good one but I don't think i have enough nerve (a.k.a. balls) to try it until dvd-r prices drop considering i need to recopy six games. I will keep it in mind for the future though. Thanks for taking the time

I use CD stomper all the time and don't have problem at all..
Only thing is I use Neato High Gloss CD labels on CD-R and
DVD-R's..Not a single problem..Bit expensive but does the job..
40 sheets 2 label per sheet for $30.00.

Shmo 14-08-2002 23:42

A03 you use all name brand dvd-r's like virbatium right? I give the neato high glosses a try though thanks

I stick with TDK,Verbatim and occasionally Imation and Sony.
Overall TDK but Verbatim works fine.

I have been using datasafe media on my cd-r games and using press-it to put my label on.Those sticker cost me £3.50 for 100 label. No problem so far.Never try on dvd-r.
Recentlly bought a cd printer and try it on ps2 dvd-r game using white surface dvd-r and none of them load on my ps2 console.
Have anyone got the same problem?????
Any idea????

elkayps2 16-08-2002 19:34

hehe, white surface dvd-r eh?
its more likely the quality of the Generic media rather than the fact it was printed on.
