Square woes

Ok, people - this one is going to stump you:

I got a PSone (PAL) with a modchip installed. I use a bootdisk (Importplayer 2.0a) to play various backup games and generaly the unit works fine. EXCEPT with a couple of games by Square:

I got the original Final Fantasy IX, which a clueless but well meaning friend got for me in the states (NTSC version...). Obviously, it needs the bootdisk in order to run well on my PAL machine. The game starts out fine, but freezes the moment I try activating any of the (!) or (?) hotspots with Vivi in the first city. The game works fine on my PC emulator. I thought it was some sort of nefarious regional protection scheme unique to this game, then a couple of days ago I got the Final Fantasy Tactics (NTSC)ISO from the net. The game works fine on my emulator, but after burning it and trying it on my PSone, I encountered a distressingly familiar problem: Game starts out fine, I finish the first combat - But then, when I get to the beginning of the second combat, the game freezes completely.

Ideas, anyone? I searched the net in vain, you're my last hope...

I don't know if this is your problem but the games mentioned Square had some problems with, they weren't right from beginning. Freezing was one of the problems. Square fixed this in the later batches.

I had trouble with Squares FF trilogies and Chrono cross which also suffered a freezing problem.

Like I said, don't know if this is what your running into but it might be.

just buy the original pal version of the game and you will be fine. you could try copying the pal version from the video store or a friend but it would be illegal.;)

Actually I do have to some what agree with this although it's little off from the topic..While back I heard that FF Anthology doesn't seem to run too well on the PS2 but it works fine on Ver.1 when I had it..So I guess Sony had a Recall on some PS2 and square did a recall as well perhaps..I'm glad all the Square games I purchased works like a charm..I mean what are the odds?
You know? Why couldn't this type of Odds be with me or you in the lotto? We'll filthy rich..Heh..Heh..
