Have V4 US Model, looking for non-swap mod
I have what Im pretty sure is a V4 US PS2. Looking at all the information from various sites, the messiah seems to be the way to go, and since they're selling the messiah that is compatible with the V4 on Hong-Kong Toys for $70, it seems the cheapest way to go.
My question is, is there any type of disadvantage or special instrucitons to use this chip on the US model? Also, what is the deal with the messiah clips? From what I understand they just make the installation easier. When I go to the site for them, there is no price listed, nor real explanation, and they never contacted me back. Anyone dealt with them? Thanks |
One thing first. You have to have the 30001 no r or 35001 v4. If so you then have to check for gap or no gap bios. I'm told 1a and 1b date codes have gap although im not sure if this is right. To be safe pop your ps2 open and look at the bios chip. If it has a gap between the legs its a gap bios and messiah will work on it. Now if you have gap you will need a thing called the ntsc color fix, its a small chip you solder onto the messiah, otherwise ps1 games will have their colors all messed up. Even with the fix the colors are still washed out and bland looking. Right now im in the same boat as you. v4 with gap and I cant decide if I should get the messiah, wait for the us messiah (hopefully next month), or wait for the magic chip that will work with our version of ps2. They have a 1-3, 5-6, and 7 but no friggen 4!!!! (out yet) /shrug hope I could shed some light on this for you.
