nfs 5 porsche 2000
 

i have nfs 5 porsche 2000/unleashed.
whenever i try to play it, it usually gets past the loading screen, and i can have one or two races, then it either restarts the computer for me or quits the game for me.
sometimes it just gets to the last loading screen, then it quits back to windows.
btw i have windowsxp, so maybe that's got something to do with it??????

i defragmented the hd, and that seemed to help; i got through 3 races, before it decided to restart the computer on me!

Try scan-disk then defrag again.

Hi, upgrade NFS5 and your graphics card drivers to the latest version.

yeah, i've updated everything, no difference

1) What graphics card have you got ?
NFS 5 won't run with a graphics card without 3d hardware acceleration.

2) Have you installed the latest DirectX drivers ?

3) Check for viruses :D

yes, i have a 3d accelerator card, i've got the newset directx (8.0)i think??, and i've got mcafee virusscan v6.02 pro, no virusses

hmm...

run dxdiag.exe (in \windows\system32 directory i think) to check if there are any problems.

or install directx 8.1 at micro$oft.com

i run the directx diagnostics profram, and there were no errors or faults. and i don't thin that upgrading directx to 8.1 would make a difference.
see porsche 2000 used to work alright when i first got it. but now about a year later, windows has become more unstable, and my plan is the put win98se on sometime soon, i think that's the problem

what would deleting the dll file do?

i deleted the gimme.dll, file and it locked up after 3 races.

i've been messing around with this game trying to get it to work, and i think all it'll do now is lockup during some races, and not restart the computer for me!...lol, any other suggestions?

someone told me that nfs5 doesn't work properly on winxp.
reinstall win98se :D

:rolleyes: I gotta weird way of starting NFS PU. I have to start other games first then quit, then start NFS PU. If I start NFS PU first when starting Windows, it'll load but nothing came up except a black screen. Same way goes to the game Messiah.
