DVD-R Help Needed!
I will be getting a Pioneer A04 shortly for my PS2 burning. I will probably be using Verbatim DVD-R because I've allways used them for my CD-R burner and had no problems. Is Verbatim a good choice? What other brands would you recommend? Also, I have seen two types of DVD-R, General and Authoring. What types should be used for PS2 burning on a Pioneer A04? Everyones feedback would be much appreciated especially the genius... charlie_ps2

Genius here!
Verbatims and Mitsui are way more expensive than other DVD-Rs but they do have a reflectivity value that is within the formal DVD spec (45% to 85%). This means that the PS2 laser calibrated normally and functioning properly is able to read the properly burned DVD-R as if it were a pressed disk (more or less). The cheaper unbranded DVD-Rs have reflectivity outside the DVD spec (like 25% to 40%) and thus need tip top lasers to read them - like in the v5s or brand new v4 laser replacements. You would use General not Authoring. |
I don't mind paying more for quality and don't want to kill my laser either. I have a NTSC v3 and I think it has a pretty weak laser so I'll probably stick with Verbatim. Thanks Charlie
