Hide CDR Media
I am using CloneCD 4.0.1.6 and have been having trouble using copies of new PC games, e.g. F1 2002, SimGolf, etc. I have no trouble copying them but when I try to run the game it does not recognize the copy.
I picked up the crack to allow the options "AWS" and "Hide CDR Media" and now, as long as "CloneCD tray" has been run once during the session with the "Hide CDR media" option checked, I can now use the game disc copy. Yay. My questions is - WTF ?? What is going on here ? I originally thought that it was going to be impossible to copy these discs until I got a new, better burner but I can see that's not entirely true. And yes I know that a NoCD crack fixes this problem too. I am interested in a permanent solution as well as finding out what is happening. |
ill try to explain to you what ATIP is.
ATIP contains all the stuff like dye colour cd length etc. which is not present on pressed cd's. So if the game detects ATIP it will not allow the game to start. Hide CD-R Media stops it from being able to detect ATIP so the game thinks its a pressed cd but its a copy and will allow the game to start. I hope this helped |
its not quite that simple, but the theory is correct :D

ATIP
Cool, That is good information to know. I was wondering that myself... Thanks
More details would be nice, but if not that's cool. I think we get the gist of it. :p |
cdfreaks have a good section answering all this questions....
|
hide cdrmedia actually does a little more than that, but olli wont reveal his secrets ;)

you never know....

Hide Cdmedia
I have a couple of games that work on other machines but not mine. I have a sm-304b dvd/burner and LG GCE-8320B burner. Triple play and Nascar both play on my other computer but not mine. What's up??? I have hide cdmedia on. Why do you think it is not working on mine does on the other one???
:D |
OK So let me get this straight basically if a this ATIP thing is correct then certain CD's cannot make a perfect 1:1 copy. Or is Hide CDR Media something that must be checked during burning.
|
hide cdr media has nothing to do with burning!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every CD-R contains an ATIP - this contains info on dye colour, length, manufacturer etc. Pressed cd's (originals) don't have an ATIP as they are pressed so don't need one. Most of the new games have a secondary protection to check for an ATIP; if an ATIP is found then it knows it's a copy. The problem with this protection (and it's the main reason why it's a secondary protection) is that only cd-writers can read ATIP; normal CD-ROM's cannot. So the solution is to play the game in a CD-ROM. For those without a CD-ROM drive, then Hide CD-R Media is the solution as it hides the fact that the cd has an ATIP (works like an emulator). |
hope you got it...
