Gta 3

Hello, im having trouble finding info on here, but im sure its here somewhere. I cant find where the patches and info are on gta 3. I just bought gta 3 , and would like to make a backup of it, but as you most likely know, the play cd does not work when copied. I copied all the files to my harddrive, and dragged them into my burner, and it burned fine, but when I try to play, it doesnt reckognize the disk. Could anyone please point me towards the info for this. Thanks.

Im using: an acer 20x10x40
and I use : Prassi Primo CD plus 2.0 which came with it(ive had better luck with this than nero, and its worked for all my playstation backups)

Copying Safedisk 2 is hardware dependent download clonecd and clony xxl available at cdmediaworld(see the link at the top of the page) and check here to see if your burner does safedisk 2 propely Check here. 2 sheeps yes 1 sheep try AWS when burning and if your playing from your burner remember to tick Hide Cdr media in the clonecd tray. If you live in the us then change your regional setttings to canada or something else so you can tick AWS

@ nicolasraage

hey there, im having the same trouble...
see what i wanted to do was back up the gta3 cd's, after i copied and pasted the files to my hard drive i was able to write them to cd just fine too. when i tested the cd's i found that the play cd wasnt recognised and it wanted the real one. truth is its not the play cd thats the problem, its the install cd. see when you install the game it copies a file called gta3.exe to your hard drive, this is the exe file that starts gta3. what i wanted was to fix the gta3.exe file on cd so that when i installed it the game would automatically work on my hard drive.
the gta3.exe file is located in the data2.cab file on the install cd. you need a file called i6comp to change the file, but then you need to change a file called data1.hdr so that it will install afterwards. i havent found out how to do this yet.
click here and download this fixed gta3.exe file, when you have done that, find the gta3 folder on your hard drive and replace the gta3.exe file with the version youve just downloaded. the game will work then with the play cd. click here

hey, thanks for the info. I'm trying to open the data2 file, its reading it as a winrar file, but its telling me, "the archive is either in unknown format or damaged" , and wont let me open it. Is there something i need to open the file?
also, if we replace this file, shouldnt we be able to burn a new install disk with the new file?

thanks again

you have to download a program called i6comp to open and view the files in the data1.cab file using dos. data1.cab is protected using installshield6 a new version im an amatuer so dont ask too complicated questions.

when you download i6comp you have to open dos and depending on where you put i6comp type out a command line. e.g. if you put i6comp in your c:\ directory, type this. c:\i6comp.exe r -f (location)data1.cab gta3.exe (location) gta3.exe
this will replace the gta3.exe file, + location is the address on your comp where the files are located e.g. c:\windows\desktop\gta3\data1.cab

what i was trying to say before is that after you replace the file, and write a new cd with the updated files it wont install. it gets so far before telling you theres an error with the install. see thats why you have to change the data1.hdr file as well, unfortunitly i have figured out how to do that, but i will brief you as soon as i know. here is the i6comp file i6comp

goodluck + if you get advice on how to change the data1.hdr file before me please let me know

1) Have you enabled Fast Error Skip as this speeds up the readng of the bad sectors.
If you have enabled it then even still it is common for some drives to take 10hrs to read the bad sectors, while other can do it in a minute or less.

If you have enabled Fast Error Skip and it is still like that, then download Daemon Tools as use it's Fast Dump feature.
