Backup and Import Question
Ok here are my details....
I have a UK version 4 PS2 A neo 2.2 Action Replay 2 I have bought both Winning Eleven 6 and Bomberman Kart on import because I'm a huge pro-evo and want to play the next version. My problem is that I cannot get a backup version of WE6 to work. I managed to copy (using CDRWIN) and burn (Fireburner) a succesful copy of WTA Tour Tennis (I know its crap :) onto a blank CDR and succesfully booted it at the eject/Press X screen in AR2. However when I try the same with a copy of We6 or Bomberman the screen just freezes when I press X and goes no further. Is there some file (patch) i need to apply because these are import games or some boot process I need to carry out? I've shelled out a small fortune on chipping, CD burner and imports as all I really care about is playing WE6 and so far I can't!! |
If you send me Winning Eleven 6 I'll make a free working backup of the game for you if it is at all possible.
What reader/burner do you use? If you've got a fully compatible burner with DAO RAW+96, then CloneCD would do the job. If not, then I can try for you. |
Well I have a Philips CDRW2412 when I use fireburner it doesn't give me the oppurtunity to DAO just SAO or TAO.
I read somewhere that the file size has to be less than 640mb a copy of WE6 is more than this or do I have this wrong? Like I say it succesfully run a copy of WTA (UK Pal) but wont play copies of either my WE6 or Bomberman Kart discs? |
The Philips CDRW2412 is not the right reader/burner for PS2 games and is thus not fully CloneCD compatible. Likewise Fireburner is unable to use DAO.
I don't know whether or not WE6 is a CD game or a DVD game. If it is a CD game, it will be 640MB or less. If it is a DVD game, then you have a rip onto CD and it can be in any condition, good or bad - high probability that the rip itself is bad. Neo2.2 will play rips > 640MB and less than 700MB and the PS2, once chipped properly, will play both NTSC and PAL games. My memory is failing me on this subject, but it may be that, seeing as your PS2 is a v4, you need AR2/v1.9 (you didn't say which version you) had |
Well the ripped bin file comes in at 673mb but its definetly from a cd-rom.
I have AR2 version 2.01 If its not a good burner for PS2 games why was I able to make a working copy of WTA Tennis? I don't get it. Is there anything I could use to burn with that does have DAO and what is DAO anyway? Basically your saying I've just wasted £80 on a burner haven't you? Any recommedations for a good one bearing in mind my PC is an ageing Pentium II. Is there anyway I can get it to work on this reader/burner? |

I'm copying directly from the Winning ELeven 6 disc which I bought legally on import.
I have used CDRWIN to extract the files onto my hard disc and i did this at the lowest speed following several net guides on how to copy. It just doesn't want to let me burn with CDRWIN |
I get no CD-Rom was found on the Scsi or Ide bus
which is why I was using fireburner as it allowed me to burn |
Gotcha - the Philips isn't CDRWin compatible. But the Yamaha is.
In the meantime, while you're sorting that out and ending up with CloneCD and a Yammie, my offer to make a working backup for you stands. Oddly I did the same for a guy in Norway last year who for the life of him couldn't get Winning Eleven 5 copied and workin! |
Thanks a lot for the offer but I'm actually getting one of someone else :)
Just to ask one more thing. I'm not hugely keen on the idea of shelling out for another (new) CD-R/W is there any older model that would work for copying (ie DAO compatible etc) that I could keep an eye-out? I dont mind if its really slow as I'm not going to be burnings game backups that often - mainly just WE6 and Bomberman Kart and my Phillips works fine for music files. Like perhaps what did you use before the Yamaha 2200 etc. Or if not tips on where I could find a cheap Yamaha 2200 then. :D |
You ask the right questions.
www.elby.de lists the compatible devices. You are looking for DAO-RAW+96. Whatever is the entry for the 2200 is what you are looking for with other burners. They sell them in London on Tottenham Court Road. I had a Yamaha 4260 before the 2100 (still got it) when CloneCD became important rather than finding patches to get round copy protection. Most times the patches didn't exist; if they did, sometimes they wouldn't work. Stuff the hassle. Get the right burner I said and I did. Followed a couple of months later by the DVD-R burner. |
Okay just one thing confuses me. You said you had a Yamaha 4260 but according to www.elby.de that does RAW-SAO and not RAW-DAO 96?
Oh and thanks a lot for all the help you've explained it in away that actually makes sense |

Okay I've been keeping a look out and I've found a couple of rewriters that when I check on the site you linked seem okay. Any change you could double check I haven't got the wrong idea.
The two in question: ricoh 7060a and AOpen CD-ReWriter 1232A They both seem to do the RAW-96 / DAO and so should copy the sub-channel data ok? |
Yep - they'll do.
