PS2 Game Patching & Libcrypt
Today I learned that the copy protection on Playstation 2 Games is the old PSX/Libcrypt protection. I have a DVD and a CD-Rewriter Drive and I wondered if there was any way to crack or bypass this protection and make a successful copy. If this is so, will I need a boot disc or a modchip or do patches crack this protection. I don't know a lot about this subject. I wonder, what exactly is a patch? Can it defeat the Libcrypt protection without the use of a MODchip? And if so, will I need a Boot Disc to make my copies work?
I also have another question, what is the best program for copying Playstation 2 games and how do you use it. Any help on these matters will be most appreciated... Thanks for any help, LUFCfan  |
you'll always need a modchip to play your backups unless you want to F*ck up your PS2 with that knifetrick

CloneCD with a fully compatible reader/burner (RAW-DAO-96) will make 1:1 copies of the CD (except for the non-ECMA pre-grrove areas that contains proprietary Sony info read by the PS2 at boot time).
With CloneCD you need no patching afterwards. But you do need a modchip because no copuying program can get to the proprietary information in the pre-groove area. |
You are referring to vcd not dvd games, Correct Charlie?

Charlie's Answer: For CD - see my Clone CD answer' For DVD, you need a DVD burner and PrimoDVD or Nero - there is no copy protection on DVD games. If this is so, will I need a boot disc or a modchip or do patches crack this protection. Charlie's Answer: You will need a modchip to boor backup games. Messiah is the one that needs no boot disk - it boots a correctly made backup. I don't know a lot about this subject. I wonder, what exactly is a patch? Can it defeat the Libcrypt protection without the use of a MODchip? And if so, will I need a Boot Disc to make my copies work? Charlie's Answer: I refer you to my answer above. Don't bother with chips that need a boot disk. Then you on't have to go into the world of patching which could take half your life away. Charlie's Answer: Answered aboved above. |
