PS2 to PC workaround?

I was wondering why a PS2 to PC workaround has not been developed yet. If it can be hooked up to the pc, why would it not be able to get the entire image of the disk, including the boot code, from the ps2 cd reader? It was done with the Dreamcast with GD-ROMs; "The release groups use a cable from their DC to their PC: the cable downloads the entire GD-ROM (using the DC's special GD-ROM laser tech) to the PC, where the group can work on removing CD checks (software copy protection), bugs, add PAL/NTSC/VGA functionality, and other goodies."
Obviously, it has not (or can't) be done and I would like to know what piece of the puzzle I may be missing.

i dout it will happen dont no wether it can or cant. But i would like something like that though

this was done with dreamcast because cdroms couldn't read the dc cds so another way had to be found...this is not happening with ps2 cds...pcs can read ps2 cds and if you know much on cracking etc. you can make this happen too.....

As to my understanding though, no pc cd-rom can read the boot info because it is stamped onto the disk. Images can be made from the rest of the disk, but the most importent part would be the boot info so no mods would be required at all. PS2 is a much more popular system the Dreamcast so I just assume that there is no current way to do it.

ok,i haven't thought of it this way. i will try to search and find anything if i can but...if this happened i think that only some burners would be able to do so and even if they were sony would find another wway to protect these cds.....

You can't just clone it - the boot sectors can't be cloned.

But I read somewhere that it was possible to play copied PSX games without modchip or bootable cd. I read the article but he explains that you have to go through this long-winded process of extracting this and doing that - it mite take up to a hour and you have to do it for each cd.

Not very practical at all - also I haven't tested it cos I couldn't be bothered and it probably would end up not working.

BTW: I just checked at the site again but it's closed "due to financial reasons"

on ps2 there are many tricks like the knife trick lets you play burnt games without a modchip but its dangerouse you could stuff your ps2

themis_t 23-05-2002 12:31

well,i think thAT that we want something external so we can have our garantee....i wouldn't like to open my ps2 without being sure of something and modchips are not so good and require a swap method so i will wait for a mod that will be perfect!!!
