macrovision

I have been reading up on "macrovision" and still don't know what this is exactly. I know it has something to do with the differnent signals put out by PAL or NTCS machines that run to your tv.
Any extra info would be nice before I try to explain it to a friend of mine. i.e what are the effects/reasons for turning it on or off. - cheers

:)

Its copy protection.Get a dvd and try to copy all the files from it to your hd.Now try and play them in windows media player. The picture should be green and scrambled, plus the sound will be totally fucked.Thats why you have to rip youre dvd's with a ripping program that gets rid of the macrovision on the fly.

right then, so to put into context-
I've heard that the Missiah LE will NOT defeat
Macrovision. What does this mean?

that you can't copy your DVDs with the PS2 to videotapes. pretty useless really.. if you are into that, you are better off with a decent standalone player.

Messiah does not disable Macrovision so if you try and record a DVD-Video from the PS2 the picture will be screwed. You can get seperate chips to disable the Macrovision or you can use the Neo4 which disables it and is region free.

I think there was also a way on older consoles to disable it by just bridging a couple of points on the motherboard in combination with another mod but my minds going and can't remember

I have a neo4r and the macrovision is still enabled, wot is going on?
