My Ps2 is dieing,can i fix it?
Ok.First off i was playing Virtua Fighter 4 (originil) today. It worked fine for about an hour or so but then in the middle of a fight the music stoped, and the game crashed as soon as the fight was over.I tried reseting my Ps2 and to my shock all i got was a black screen.I turned it off and left it alone for about 5 minutes and tried again. This time it started up fine and seemed to work properly again for about 10 minutes only for the exact same thing to happen again. This pattern keeps happening all the time now.
1.Game hangs 2.Reset ps2 3.If i get a black screen(9/10 times i do)wait 5 mins before turning it back on 4.Game boots up again but crashs again 10 to 15 minutes later What does it sound like to you guys?.I really hope i dont have to get a new ps2 :(. btw,its a v3 |
chances are that it's overheating. check the temp of the airflow from the fan.. also make sure it's not placed on carpet.

could be your laser is going down the pan slowly or has a dirty lens.
have you tried cleaning the laser lens.....also are your games clean ? make sure the front vents under the front of the PS2 are not clogged with fluff. cheers, Daz. PS my laser packed up after 3 months old..cos i chipped it couldnt claim on warranty so bought a replacement laser for £27 from WWW.LIK-SANG.COM fairly easy to fit too. works a treat again. |

just thought of something.. it might be your internal power supply. if it's damaged/dieing, it might not be able to output a constant voltage.. and if the voltage drops, the PS2 locks up. there are replacement power supplies available.. if possible, find someone with the same model and swap power supplies to confirm first.

It was in the mail recently. My brother(who's a computer scientist) reckons some idiot droped it and theres a hairline crack on the motherboard. The longer the ps2 is on,the more heat it generates so the motherboard expands and so does the crack.Does this sound valid?.

both could be the case. the PSU could've been damaged in the mail as well. I did have a PS2 with a hairline crack once, but that was after the MB was put in wrong.. no chance to fix that. while the system was closed, something like that can only really happen with LOTS of force.. and before the MB cracks, the laser unit is way fucked from that force. but it still works, so I'm guessing the chance of a crack is slim.

Shit!,well if it is the psu its not worth getting repaired seeing as its a v3 and i just spent 100 euros on getting the tray mechanism fixed.guess i gotta get a new ps2 :(
Thanks for the Info Arakon |
