Anyone see those videos on Lik-sang.com about the GC being able to boot backups? The spanish guy was funny even it was fake. ;)

at the moment theres no way to backup the GC games. theres several problems

1. i tried to dump the GC disk to a bin file using cdcopy the damn thing wouldn't even read it!

2. the disks..although the specs say it holds 1.5gb most of the time it's actually 1.8gb. the problem? you can't buy the blanks!

3. a mod chip DOES NOT exist for the GC and you can bet it has a way of recognising COPIED disks if you did find a way to copy them that is.

so the verdict is: you can't copy them


YET

maybe someone can use the gc as a cd-rom drive on his pc.
so he can rip the game and burn it on a normal cd-r.
like it was on the dreamcast.
perhaps you even need a boot-disk, so somebody has to hack the gc.

i already tired that i used 2 drives
a DVD and a cd-writer both wern't able to read the disk at all. the drives just kepy clicking and clicking like it does when you put a cd in thats the wrong format

i ment something else.
but i can't say this in english.

but i'll try: you can use the gc as a 3rd drive which you connect to your pc

i dont think nintendo had that in mind when their were designing the GC! so i doubt that would be possible.

Doesn't the GC have a modem ?

You can connect your DC to your PC using its modem. It's quite simple since DC's OS is a Win CE OS, so it's quite easy to communicate with it and use it as a GD reader. But I don't know what runs on DC...

And I don't think any drive would read GC disks since they aren't like CDs : more data and they're compressed. Maybe a DVD reader, someday...

8cm cdrs have a capacity of like 200-250 mb. the gc cds have a capacity of 1.5 gb. thats approximetely 6-7 times bigger. this is the same with cdrs and dvds, the dvd is 6-7 times bigger than a normal cd. so the GC games are probably mini dvds. you would need a DVD rom or writer which allows 8cm cdrs to actually read the game.

when the time comes to write the disk than your are even more stuck than before.:confused:

its true. the gc uses mini dvd-r. i can get those empty disc so wenn the orginials can be ripped it won`t be a prob

yeh but no cd or dvd drive can read the gc discs so they can't be ripped. plus there's no programs out that could perfectly duplicate the gc disk and cdcopy won't work either.

Ok i have READ the GC-Disc in my DVD with Clone CD. The Disc finally CD has 75:12 min, the game is NHL Hitz 20-02, and Super Monkey Ball (73 min).

Here are the steps to make a COPY of you Game.

FIRST:
RUN CLONE CD

SECOND:
Don't close your DVD-Rom, put the GC-Disc in and

Last Step:
Click on Clone CD Backup-Read from DVD.

ATTENTION!!!!! CLONE CD MUST CLOSE THE DVD- OR THE SOFTWARE CAN'T READ THE DISC.

OK. But now my problem, my 80 Min CD-R don't get in the GC, the Disc ist too great. Now my hope is this page:

Here you can buy the ORIGINAL GC DISC WITH 1.5 GB! ALL YOU NEED IS A DVD-BURNER...Please can anyone with a DVD-Burner TEST if the Backup works on the GAMECUBE?
Or is there any Person in this forum that has a Panasonic Q, perhaps the 80 Min CD-R works! So i go and buy a Q :-)))))))).

your full of it cos i tried to read the GC disk in my DVD drive and it wouldn't! As for needing a dvd burner to actually burn the cds. BAH forget it than it would be cheaper buying the damn games! dvd burners are NOT cheap > $2000+!!!

come on BladeX what u on about? a dvd burner over here costs 400 GBP max now in ur money thats about $600 i think ur figures are way out!!

now BBBTrueman is there a special setting u have changed in cloney cause when eva i copyed with it, it never closes the tray 4 me!!! burning software usually opens the tray after a burn but not b4 + this sounds 2 easy ne way - u sure ur not just having a laugh with us? if it works the ur the man, the tureman!! :)

The CloneCD trick works? Excellent. akahomeruk - in settings, select 'lock CD' and also make sure Windows doesn't autostart the CD. If you leave the drive open when you start CloneCD and then go through the copying process, the drive will close and completly by-pass the windows CD drivers.



The problem is - - can the GC actually read proper DVD disks? - there was a mini DVD disk on the cover of one of the GC magazines with some video previews, but the mag said that it couldn't be read on a GC.

I think the most likely method of playing backups would be some sort of DVD drive add-on (like the Doctor64 thing for the N64) - which would be cool as you couild get muliple games per disk!

the magazine disk u are talking about is just a preview mini dvd that you can only use in a pc (or stand alone dvd player).

there are however mini dvd around but at the moment are a bit high in price, about $10 each. so what we need a person with a dvd writer and some of these disks to try it out.

what game did u image and what setting did u use?
