SBOX Question

Hello,

Just wanting to know if SBOX will work on V6?

and is it necessary to remove the component of a v5 machine? what happens if u do not remove it? will it still work? what is the point of removing the component?

thx in advance...

just asking for a friend, who has a new ps2, unsure if it;s v6 or v5.. since i upgrade to messiah, giving sbox to him.. hehe

you don't have to remove anything, and a V6 doesn't exist either. it's still a V5.

the only difference is that the ribbon cable connector is flipped around. the board is still the same version, tho.

Arakon, are you sure about this, the diagram clearly states to remove that component (resistor i think) and solder to the now empty top pad. Are you saying that you can just solder to the top of the component?

that's the first time I heard that you have to remove any components for the s-box, and it makes no sense at all either, considering the point is the same as for the neo 2.x, for which nothing has to be removed.

This is the standard diagram for the sbox/neokey that you will find on the net. They all say to remove the component. Have you tried it with the component?

Also, do you have to patch EVERY backup you play with the SBOX with the EA of Swap trick patcher, and if so, which patch do i use (EA or Swap Trick)?

Also,

What is the best way to remove the component stated, De-Soldering with solder braid may bamage the PCB, and i don't have two soldering irons to melt both ends.

Has anybody else done it?

from the looks of it, removing the component just totally disables the USB port, so it's safe to do.. unless you ever plan on using that port again. if you ever plan on using an USB mouse + USB keyboard (i.e. for webbrowsers or unreal tournament) on your PS2, don't remove that part.
I highly recommend getting a decent modchip.
and yes, you have to patch any and all EA-style protected games.
