Need help getting around CDCheck
I've been searching the forum for answers (and found none) so I've either done something terribly wrong, or the answer is starring me right in the face (btw, I'm a newbie)...
Used unSafeDisc on Final Fantasy 7, but realized after the fact that ClonyXXL doesn't explicity tell you about all of the protection schemes it is supposed to detect (ie CDCheck)... So my question of course is how I might get around this damn protection scheme? CD-R: LG CD-RW CED-8120B DVD: MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8585 Thanx in advance for any help that can be given and cheers to the system gurus that make this all happen |
What are you trying to copy ? FF VII ?
If so, just use ClonCD and select CD to CD copy. No need to go all out and use XXL. |
(Sorry, I'm an amature)... So clony will eliminate the CDCheck problem but I still have to to use BetaBlocker or something similar to deal with SafeDisc right?
With the CDs that I already made, I can play until the end of the first disc...Then in the game the action stops and cuts to a screen prompting for the insertion of the second disc, at which point I'm obviously screwed... (I'm telling you all this in hopes that it might paint a clearer picture of my situation) |
No, if you are making copy's of the original disks, all you would need to do is just run Clony, and then copy with CloneCD.
I have copyed all 4 disks of FF VII with just cloneCD by itself and they are all perfect copys. |
Thought I'd clear up a few issues here.
1. Clony XXL and similar apps only detect commercial protections and also whether the cd is oversized (above 650Mb), or contains simple errors to the cd structure (e.g. illegal table of contents). 2. "CDCheck" is not a standard commercial protection but a simple check within the game's code to ensure a corrrect cd is in the drive, usually by checking the label or presence of a specific file. If no other protection is present (which usually is designed also to encrypt the game's loader.exe to prevent peeps from disassembling it and removing this cd check) then most cd burners and clonecd will copy it. In summary, if Clony doesn't find a cd protection on the cd then there is a good chance (but not 100% foolproof) that none exists. The cd check is therefore a simple piece of code within the game's loader which is independant of anything uncopiable on the cd. So your burner should have no problem copying this title as there would appear to be no mechanism on the cd itself to prevent copying. |
