Creating backups of GDroms
I know this is a subject that must have been covered many times, but i've just gotten hold of a DC and can't find a good guide to making a backup of a game (the game i got with the DC was Sonic Adventure, and it's pretty scratched)
The one tutorial i read said something about a serial cable for backups? is this right and is there anywhere online to buy one? Thanks for reading and hopefuly replying! |
Unless you're ready for a lot of work, my advice is to not even try. It won't work unless you're ready to get a serial cable from an online dealer, hook up your Dreamcast to your PC, spend all night (literally) ripping the data from your disc, to your PC, via the serial cable, extract the data from the files, hack the files, downsample the audio/video so the files are small enough to fit a CD-R disc, and then figure out how to burn them successfully to a disc...
It's a lot of work to convert original Sega GD-ROM discs to backups. It's not even something I will try, and I've been posting here on these forums for about 11 months now, and have helped quite a few people in that time (I stop short of calling myself an expert - an expert would actually have ripped a game as well). |
