Problem with lite-on 32123s
Used cloneyxxl 2.0.0.6 and clone 4.0.0.1 to backup Morrowind. Message comes up asking for the correct cd. What's wrong? Maybe the firmware of the writer, which is XSOF. If it's the wrong version, what should it be? tnx

Did you enable Hide CD-R Media
|
xsof?

Am I disapointed!
I was under the impression that the drive would make a perfect standalone copy. Well, I finally used the hide cdrmedia and it works. Even the one that was burned at max.
XSOF is the firmware version. So basically what you all are saying that it's hardly likely that a copied game will work without the hide cdr? A neighbor had a phillips 800 cdrw and made standalone copies of sd 2.x, of course he had to run them in the cdr. |
The reason you have to use Hide CD-R Media is because the game has an ATIP check.
Every CD-R has an ATIP that contains info on manufacturer, length etc. Pressed CD's (original ones) don't have this. Only mainly cd-writers can read the ATIP - most normal CD-ROMS can't. So if you are gonna play it in a writer, you have to enable Hide CD-R Media (there is no way to make a perfect copy that gets round ATIP as it is not physically possible as every CD-R has an ATIP). It's only newish games (about Safedisk 2.4 and up) that have this ATIP check. |
Now I understand!
I see, said the blind man, as he picked up the hammer and saw.
Hey, tnx fellow gamers....... Oh by the way, where can I find specs on different readers/prices that will read ATIP? I don't want to use my burner all the time to play an sd2.5xx game. |
99.9% of CD-ROMS can't read ATIP. If the drive is a cd-writer (possibly DVD-writer) then it can read ATIP.
So you can just use a normal CD-ROM or DVD-ROM to play them. I don't believe anyone will have made a list on ATIP reading capabilities as it's as plain as above. |
so you do have 100% perfect backup! what do you think of you new one! i love my new Lite 32123s!
|
I like the 32123s
The first copy was at max write, the second one at 4x, the third one at 2x. They all play the same, so write speed doesn't seem to be an issue.
By the way, a big difference in read and write takes much less time, due to the 96 whatchamacallit as opposed to 16 for the Phillips 1208 that I was using before. |
i always write at max speed wotht the liteon, you don;t have to worry.
|
never be sure...........
|
what?
|
never be sure that max speed is harmless......
|
i am with my cdrw
|
ok...it's your choise...
