New to PS2 burning.

G'day...I am new to PS2 burning , but not to burning in general...but i have some question that need answers please.

1.- What is the best modchip for Australian pal PS2 model scph 30002 ?

2.- Can you burn PS2 games with an ordinary CDR-w Burner ?, I know I still need a DVD player to read PS2 games.

3.- Will modchiped PS2 machine read CD-R disc's, or do i have to burn on blank DVD disc's ?

4.- And if i have to use DVD's disc's, can I still use my CDR-w Burner ?

All your advice will be appreciated, as I am holding off purchasind products untill I get expert advice.

Thanks

ANSWER - Take a look at these http://www.modchip-sbox.com/howtoIdentify.shtml / http://www.start-games.com/ps2version.asp? The best choice mod-chip is the Messiah and is compatible with all PAL models.

2.- Can you burn PS2 games with an ordinary CDR-w Burner ?, I know I still need a DVD player to read PS2 games.
ANSWER - Yes, there are 2 tyes of PS2 game format - namely Compact Disc and DVD-Rom. You can only backup PS2 compact disc games using a CD-Writer. You can backup PS2 compact disc and dvd-rom games using a DVD-Writer.

3.- Will modchiped PS2 machine read CD-R disc's, or do i have to burn on blank DVD disc's ?
ANSWER - Your PS2 will read both Compact Disc and DVD-Rom. Some mods cannot read backup CD-R's, some mods cannot read backup DVD-Rs, some mods require swapping discs at different stages of booting. This is where you need to investigate and find the best mod (Hint = Messiah) for your needs.

4.- And if i have to use DVD's disc's, can I still use my CDR-w Burner ?
ANSWER - No

My advice is by no means expert. This is what I have picked up from the forum since Feb 2002. Believe it or not everybody on this forum was new to this at one stage too - Even charlie and arakon !

Thanks

Thanks for your advice Paul, just one more quick request.

How do i tell the compact disc versions of PS2 games from DVD-rom versions ?.
Will Loading PS2 games into a DVD player identify them ?

Cause I am deciding wether to by a new DVD and CD burner for my PC, or waiting a few months to see how much the price of DVD burners may come down in price. As my old CDR-W burner is a couple of years old, and very slow compared to new cheaper models out now.

Thanks again

Back of the PS2 case, bottom right(ish). It tells you there. It also tells you on the disc.

Personally, I would save your money and purchase a DVD-Writer (Pioneer A03.

Once again, my advice is by no means expert!
