Cant burn Codename: Outbreak! Please help!

Hey guys, I tried to backup my Codename Outbreak CD. What happened was, when I first installed and played with the original CD, I didn't realize that the music was not playing.

Then, I wanted to back it up, and so wrote it to a CD image using Clone CD. Just so that I didn't waste any blanks, I decided to test the image before burning. I mounted the CD image onto a virtual drive with daemon tools and ran the game.

To my surprise, there was some real cool music that wasn't there when I ran the CD from the CD-Rom drive! I burned the CD image onto a backup, and ran it from the CD-Rom, and the music was gone again.

Funniest thing is, I wrote ANOTHER CD Image from the BACKUP, and ran the CD image from Daemon tools, and the music is there again!

It seems that whenever I run from the CD-Rom, the music is not there, only when I mount a CD image onto Daemon tools its there!!!

What's going on? I do have an audio cable if that's what you're thinking.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!

There are three cables going from your CD-Rom elsewhere.
1. The IDE cable - thats where the actual data goes through

2. power cable - as the name says

3. CD-Audio cable - its the smallest one. It is used to pass CD-Audio to the Soundcard. Meaby its not plugged in correctly.

How did you manage to read Codename: Outbreak to your HD and then burn a working copy? What settings did you use, what writer do you have? Ive heard it is impossible to copy it 1:1. Does the game work when you install from backup?

Firstly regarding the cables, I have all of them. And i don't see how the audio cable can be not connected correctly because I put in an audio CD and the sound plays perfectly.

Although the songs automatically load to Winamp and play. I can use the PC speaker to hear them, and the headphones plugged into the PC speaker outlet, but the headphone outlet on the CD_ROM doesn't do anything it seems. Is this the problem?

I copied using Clone CD 4 and there aren't really any settings it's all automatic, just chose "Game CD", and the CD image works perfectly. Also cloned with CD-Mate and it worked perfectly also on hard disk.

I installed from the backup and the game works perfectly, except no music when ran from the CD rom. If I run from the CD Image, it works fine, even if the installation was done with the CD. (i.e., install from CD, run from CD Image, still fine.)

I don't think it's the audio cable because if so, then ALL sounds from the game CD should not work, right? ALl sounds work EXCEPT the music in the main menu(at lesat as far as I've played the game)!

Normally weapon and environment sounds are copied to HD. Only CD-Audio is played from CD.
But if you can play Audio-CDs normally it cant be the cable.
It must be some sort of setting Daemon is using with your soundcard. Try messing with your sound settings a bit, or download latest soundcard drivers.

Can you enlighten me as to how to arrange sound settings? I have Windows ME and a lot of people tell me to arrange settings but settings that do not seem to exist...

And also what are Daemon settings you refer to?

Also, do you know if when you play an audio CD, (Like a music album), is it relying no the audio cable? Because it loads the songs on Winamp... I dunno, I just have a feeling as if it's copying the songs onto the a temp area and playing from the hard drive... Are the songs loading in winamp playing right confirmation that the cable is ok?

Anthony2 07-05-2002 05:46

Ok I have confirmed that the Audio Cable works fine. I played an audio CD, and I clicked "Mute" on the CD Player tab in volume and it muted. SO that means it's not the cable.

Now I don't understand how it can be that CERTAIN SOUNDS PLAY AND CERTAIN SOUNDS DON'T...

Is the music in Codename Outbreak Main menu of a special type of format?? It seems hard to imagine as its just normal music with no need for extra technology to give me a hard time.

Does anyone know?

Try to play your game cd in a normal CD-Player. If there are more than one tracks on it, play the second one. If thats your music, the format is CD-Audio for sure.

Audio settings can be found under Multimedia (at least in 98).

I know where the sound settings are but people tell me to do things to it inside there and the things they say I should click don't exist.

Anthony2 07-05-2002 13:09

You're Right!!!!

It IS track 2!!!!!

What worries me the most is, there is also track 3! Which does not play music but I wonder if whatever is on that track will play in game...

How come it doesn't work?? This is really annoying me. Because the CD player is playing audio CDs, so why would it not play CD Music from the game??

Someone help please ... WAAAA.

so do you know what protection it uses, i think this may be some sort of Tages?

Anthony2 07-05-2002 13:25

I read elsewhere on this page it is laserlock, but that's irrelevant anyway because I write a NEW CD image from the CD that doesn't work with the music, run with daemon tools, and it works with the music when run from Hard Drive!! So the only difference seems that once I have the damn thing running on the CD-Rom, as VS. a Virtual Drive with Daemon tools, the Music is gone. The same CD image written from the CD that don't work, works when run from the image alone.

But then, the damn CD player is playing audio CDS!!!! So what's the problem??! Someone help please! WAAA!!!!

I just checked out this URL

http://www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_t...atch=coutbreak

And they mention that the patch v1.0 fixes the bug called "CD-Music-Off-In-Menu" bug... but the thing is, I already installed this patch and it still don't workk... Sigh...

If anyone else has this problem, please let me know how you solved it.
