Ps2 Bootdisk.....
OK I'm a real numpty when it comes to stuff like this so could someone spread some light on this subject. I have been toying with the idea of gerrin my PS2 chipped but heard a lot of horror stories about the PS2 breaking down after a few months etc and the other night I downloaded a 'fully working bootdisk' from the net. Now does this mean that I will be able to boot backup disks with the bootdisk and without gerrin my PS2 chipped or am I just being numb in the head?
Please could you point me in the right direction of what to do cos I have heard that the NEO chpi isn't very good and that is the chip that ppl in my town are chipping the PS2s with. Cheers. XxXMattiiXxX |
urgh.
for the 400th time. there is no bootdisc and NEVER will be. it's technically impossible to reproduce the protection with any burner , and will not be possible in the future either unless the burner technology is COMPLETELY changed. think about it.. if a bootcd was possible, why would they even make one and not make the backups bootable right away? |
As I said from the start BIG MOUTH I am no expert with PS2s, and I am OBVIOUSLY going to want to know all the details before I go and spend £100 in my town getting my PS2 chipped if there was an easier and less risky way.
And NOTHING is technically impossible, remember the Dreamcast when that first came out? It was 'TECHNICALLY IMPOSSIBLE' to EVER copy DC games but here they are, with no chipping needed, only a bootdisk. And you say "if a bootcd was possible, why would they even make one and not make the backups bootable right away?", the answer is simple, the people who copy and sell PS2 backups know NOTHING about them, they simply make copies from copies and sell them at the local car boot sale, they couldn't care less about making a self bootable disk, why should they? As I said from the start, I know nothing on the subject and needed info, not an attempt at being patronized by someone who seems to think he's an expert. It was only a while ago that you could ONLY make backup Dreamcast games from the ISOs on the net but now you can copy them freely, so as I said before, NOTHING is impossible, it will only be a matter of time before a program is created that can make backups that can be run from a bootdisk or are self bootable themselves....YOU think about it! Calm down man.
Arakon is an expert. He knows this stuff inside out and was telling you, who was asking exactly what's what. PS2 original games contain proprietary information in the pre-pit zone that Sony's pressing equipment can access. The ECMA 279 standard for DVD-R precludes the design of any access to this zone by common DVD devices; there is a parallel situation with CD-R device. Therefore PS2s use proprietary firmware or software to extract and compare info from the pre-pit area (that cannot be read by noprmal CD/DVD readers and thus cannot be burned by the burners) so that the boot go ecision can be taken by the PS2. Arakon acknowldeged the possibility that a firware rewrite that stepped outside international standards (which is what Sony have done) could get round this question. So he isn't a bigmouth and doesn't deserve your outburst. Perhap you might apologise to him. |
Dont be mad at Arakon, he was nice enough to answer to your question. When you registered you agreed to use the search engine before posting. There is no PS2 boot disc AND THERE NEVER WILL BE! This has been posted a thousand times. If you had searched just a little you would have found that out, Again Arakon wasn't trying to make you look stupid. You are doing that all by yourself :D

first of all, DC games still can't be "copied". the files have to be transfered via serial port or BBA and a disc manually built. the discs still can't be read by any available PC drive, no matter how you turn it or how you hack it.
the DC discs run WITHOUT bootdisc, in fact. however, they boot due to a bug. the DC runs the so-called MIL cd format, which is a karaoke cd with a data track. the DC will execute the program on the data track if the cd is in the MIL format.. or a "faked" one, like the DC backups.. audio track(s) and a data track following it. however, none of that applies to PS2. the DC had no cdr protection AT ALL. THAT's why it plays cdr without mod chip. the psx and ps2 DO have an active anti-cdr protection. second, that question has been asked ALOT of times. simply using the search function or even just reading back some pages would have answered your questions. that's why I got somewhat pissy. |
