Need help with plextor 24x CDRW

Hi all,

recently, I have adquired a New CDR Writer. A Plextor IDE-ATAPI 24x10x40x and I have a problem. The writer burns properly, but, the process is too slow.

I have adviced that the buffer is empty frequently, and this is the cause of the low working.

Mi CD Reader is a Pioneer DVD 16x/40x
The CD MEDIA used to burn is IMATION 80min
The Operating System is Win98
The Computer is based on ATHLON 1.2Ghz UDMA 100 and 256 Mb RAM.

Can anybody suggest any possible solution for write at 24x real speed?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

PD: I have configured the Operating System as explains many of the manuals on the net.

Hi,

Are you attempting disc-to-disc copying? If so it's better to make an image file first to your hard drive, then you're free to burn at whatever speed you like.

I'd suggest try a different brand if media.

Best of luck :-)

In both cases happens the same trick.

Copying on the fly disc to disc and Copying from image on hard disk, or Hard Disk Files

Found some interesting stuff at this site as regards burning at 16x and above.

The finger of blame seems to be pointing towards the BIOS and/or any chipset drivers you may have installed on your system. Symptoms include your writer's l.e.d. changing colour when you burn - it may be going into "burnproof mode".

There's no doubt that with a spec like yours you should be writing at max speed.

Just an extra thought - have you got your writer and DVD-Rom connected as recommended by the writer's manual, usually:

Primary master = MAIN drive C:\
Primary Slave = not used or extra hard drive.

Seconday master = DVD-ROM
Secondary Slave = WRITER

Mixing hard drives and writers will almost certainly hit performance.

Hope this snippet of info helps you out :-)

A guranteed cure for this if you have the room in
your pc is buy youself an ultraplex 40 max this is
a scuzy reader and will need a scuzy card you
can then write all day at maximum speed without
any problems also it will create an image of a cd
in a fraction of the time of other cds .
you always get problems with ide writers and dvd
and other ide readers . the plexter isnt cheep about £50 + 15 for scuzy card .
