I have been out of the scene for a little while, and just got interested in buying a modchip again.

Sooo, it seems that the Messiah is THE chip to buy, but I would like to know it is for PAL PS2s only?

I have a version 4 NTSC PS2. If the messiah IS for PAL PS2s only, what other choices do I have?

I am not too interested in getting a scart.

I would go for the Origa chip then, or even better wait for Messiah 2 - due in July 2002.

Stay away from the NEO crap, as they will fry your laser in no time.

the messiah works in all PAL models, but ony V4 US models. if yours is compatible, get the messiah. if not, get the origa.

What does this Messiah 2 do?? I thought Sony put the distrubting of Messiah modchips out... If anynody could HELP me could yuo give me some specs of what exactly the Messiah chip can Do what It can play and what it can't??thx...

It seems like doesn't matter what Sony does with ModChips because another one pops after another..
You stop one and another pops!!
Also for Neo 4 chip I hear more horror stories than Success..
I can't speak for anybody's behalf but personally it's fine for me..
I have a Neo 4 Machine(Had it for 4 months straight) and a Messiah Machine both NTSC and they work fine without a problem..My suggestion is if anybody who's planning on getting Neo 4 just get your machine modded professionally..don't bother modding it yourself because it's not worth the time..44 wires? Come on!! Although recently it came down to 11 only due to the fact that Union Chip merged with Neo 4 and became Neo 4.5 so it's 11 wires instead of Whopping 44..

How can I check and see what version ps2 i have?

First off is your machine Pal or NTSC?
Now You need the following:
SCPH:XXXXX and Date Code:
Example: SCPH:30001 Date Code:1A and etc..
NTSC Machines that's compatible with messiah are
SCPH:30001 with Date Code:1A,1B or 1D..1C model is NOT Compatible..
SCPH:35000 All
For Pal machines I heard that it works All!!

Last thing I forgot to mention:
With the SCPH and Date Code the Serial Starting with
U1XXXXX is Ver.1, U0XXXX is Ver.2,U2XXXXX is Ver.3..
Ver.4 starts with U3XXXX..At least for mine..Heh..Heh..
Another way to Check is Look for the Square pegs on the bottom of the machine..Ver.1-3 has 10 total counting the Rubber ones..
Ver.4 and up(Latest model) has only 8..

Check your email A03 ;) and my ps2 is NTSC, first two letters is U0 on the serial.

I read that you said a US NTSC PS2 SCHP-30001 with date code 1C can't run a Messiah chip? - (Lucky me to have bought the most difficult hard-coded PS2 on the market in a foreign country before buying a stack of PAL games only to find they don't work or can't be returned to the dealer - can my luck get any worse?)

If this is so am I able to still run the Origa or is this only for European versions. Does Origa require a Gameshark2 and do import games(i.e. PAL) need to be patched to run?

Help Please!! - I am determined to get my PS2 running these dam PAL games.

I'm .99% positive That Origa will run on Date Code: 1C machines..
And Yes! Origa not only runs on PAL machines but NTSC as well..
Origa Boots Import Originals without swapping..
However I can't say for PAL Originals..What I mean is that if you have a NTSC machine with Origa of course it will boot Import(Japan)Originals without swapping but PAL originals..Don't know..
You might have to back up the PAL games then try swapping..
My advice is Post a Thread to Charlie_Ps2(Pal Expert) he knows lot more about PAL related than I do and anybody for that matter..
My expertise is only on Japan and US consoles only!
Sorry I coudln't help you! And My condolensces..Sometimes life bites out of people..In the other hand wait for Messiah 2 around July/August(Estimate Date)..It's Compatible with Every System known to Man..Even Machines with DC:1C Machines..I hear anyway!!
