Problems creating 1:1 copies using Nero
I've just updated my copy of Nero to 5578, but I am having problems trying to burn a 1:1 copy of disks. Even though I have increased available memory for Nero, I keep getting buffer underflow errors. Last time this happened it went through the simulation OK but when it came to the actual burn it got 60% of the way through the disk and died. I can't even do a multi-session burn session without it dying again.
Now, I've taken all precautions (unloading resident applications in memory, defragged the drive where I do burns, turned off screensavers, no multi-tasking.) What I can do is burn VCD's and this leads me to a theory, that I can burn VCD's because I am burning Track at Once, not Disk at Once. When I try to burn a multi-session disk the problem comes up because I am trying to burn DAO. Are there are tips, ideas or solutions I can try that anyone would like to suggest? I have a Pentium III 650 machine, 315 M/b memory, and using a Diamond Data 4x4x32 CD/RW drive. HD is 50K speed. Thanks in advance, Sydney2K |
Two points in reply.
1/ Nero won't do 1:1 copies so far as I know. It needs CloneCD. 2/ You don't mention your burner. But you do mention buffer-underrun. This usually occurs because you are burning too fast and/or something else is running on your PC (like Anti-virus has kicked in, or you are on-line). It can also occur because your hardware is not optimally set up. The source channel should be different from the destimation channel. For example, the HDD would be on the primary IDE channel as the Master; the CD burner would be on the secondary IDE channel as the Master. You pribably know this anyway. Hope that helps. |
Hello Charlie, thanks for replying
to meet your points: 1/ Yes, Nero Burning ROM will burn 1:1 copies- it's outlined for some games in GCW or you can look here: http://gamefix.********/safedisc_nero.htm Game Fix's instructions 2/ The funny thing is that when I try to indicate what speed I want to burn (and for 1:1 copies 1x speed should be used) Nero will only indicate 4x or 2x burn speed- not 1x. I have no anti-virus applications running (I have to manually activate it.) I've also set up the CD/RW drive on the secondary channel as every good PC building instructions tell you to. I've downloaded CloneCD, but when I try to create an image I end up with errors and I can't complete it (well, I've not gone all the way.) I've downloaded 4.0.0.0- any instructions how to use CloneCD to make 1:1 copies? Thanks, Sydney2K |
to meet your points a second time
1) Nero is not suitable for 1:1 copies of safedisc games. call me a liar if you will, but make the Sims. no cracks allowed. it wont work. part 2) making backups with clone cd. we here on the forums are in full support of the search button. its a wonderous device. it holds the key to so much information, but rarely is it used. i challenge you to try it - you'll find it satisfying. also, you still havent mentioned your burner. |
To meet my points again:
1/ Nero does not do 1:1 copies. It only handles subchannel data in the audio context as index data. If any protection mechanism uses the subchannel zones, then Nero can't handle it. 2/ CloneCD: The best version is 3.3.4.1. For Safedisc you would use the AmplifyWeakSectors facility. Youi haven't mentioned your reader/burner so I can't help you further. |
I have have britannica 2002 cd,
