Spyro the Dragon 3 backup probs

Hi im trying to back up my Spyro the Dragon 3 for my PSX i have the old 9002 model and basically what happens after the game loads you get the title screen when u press the button to start the game it locks.

I have used all the patches from this site but nothing seems to work.

I am experianced at burning and patching using ppf-o-matic and this is the only game that has given me trouble.

Is there some new protection used in this game as i have heard Sony have put some kind of protection to do with the auto save feature.

I am based in the U.K and have the PAL euro version of the game.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanx in advance.

you need a nu chip

CyberMick 24-04-2002 04:32

Can u elaborate more on this pls.

I need some more info do u need a newer hex is that what u are saying?

Thanx in advance.

patch god 25-04-2002 20:26

whoever that fag was who said you need a new chip is a complete moron. i have the same model playstation as you and i also have spyro 3 uk pal version and have copied it without a problem. you simply must use "clone cd" to copy this game and your burner must be compatible. here are the settings:

read subchannel data- enabled
read subchannel audio-enabled
abort on read error-enabled

write options are:

DAO RAW mode
dont correct subchannel data-enabled

and there you go,but if you cant use these settings then you are never going to sucsessfully copy this game! plain and simple

Thanx patchgod for a sensible answer i thought it was bullshit needing a new chip i have the 9002 psx and and use the standard psx1 chip whichh workds with every single one of my backups, i heard Sony put a protedtion in the game save and it needed patching.

I have made about 5 coasters now using all the patches from megagames i have a Teac R55S which to my knowledge isnt supported by CLone CD and thats why i have to use CDRWIN and patch my games, if you know different can u pls let me know.

Thanx in advance.

albysimmo 27-04-2002 11:16

patch god is correct. but he forgot to mention none of the patches work. so forget cdrwin and obtain a writer that can do clone cd regards

CyberMick 27-04-2002 15:19

Thanx albysimmo for your reply now i know where i stand perhaps i should take it to my friends house i think he has Clone CD and his burner is supported.

PSXpirate 27-04-2002 21:15

none of the psx games ive burned with clonecd worked if i enabled the "read subchannel audio" and "subchannel data" options. but the games always work perfectly when they arent enabled. so i guess just try what that other guy said about it first cuz it might be different with PAL games.

if not too late...

I recommend the Clone CD path.

I love spyro, and had a nightmare backing up spyro 3. there were several part successful PAL patch, but none that were 100%
There was eventually a good NTSC one though.

So I bought a mitsumi CloneCD compatible, sorted out Spyro 3 first time. From then on, no need to mess with applying patches, waiting for those patches to appear.
Insert, burn, play...

I just copied spyro 3 and it works. I used cdrwin, the pdx-s3u_fix patch from megagames and ppf-o-matic. If you use clonecd, the game still has the anti-mod code in it. You know it might be your laser on your playstation that's having a problem reading the disk. I have a 7501 and it was hit and miss with loading games, sometimes I would have to try 5 or six times to get them to load, but I found out the 5501 series has a real good laser so I got one and I've never had a problem. I use the ps-exchange disk, but I know the plug mods work too..

Sorry, gotta disagree some with you cain3.

You are in USA by looks of it, therefore no doubt patching the NTSC version.
When Spyro 3 was newish, there were several patches for both PAL and NTSC, some people even tried patching over another patch (with a modicom of success).
Anyway, the bottom line at that time was that the guys (forget who) brought out a 100% good fix for the NTSC version, but not (at that time anyway) one for the PAL version.

The PAL patched version seemed fine, until you noticed that some eggs you got were lost, particularly on one level (one that the kangaroo did)

However, I can 100% gaurantee that using CLoneCD with the right settings gives a perfect backup with a stealth/dino crisis mode chip in a 'normal' PSX, as Spyro 1,2 & 3 are my all time fave games, and I have a working Spyro 3 cloneCD backup downstairs.

I cannot comment on whether, in the meantime (I haven't been on PSX boards for some time), a 100% PAL patch has been released, but by the look of a recent post, I would hazard a guess at not.

Ahhhh, I see..I'm sorry, I was presuming (incorrectly) everyone was in the same region..my bad

Thanx 4 all ur input guys i really appreciate ur help this is quite a dilema im having here, lol.

There are two PAL fixes that claims to work 100% by Paradox but i tried it and it still locks after a gamesave. Its this file on Megagames;

Spyro the Dragon 3: Year o/t Dragon Protection Fix [100%] & +3 Trainer

and this one by Bad;

Spyro the Dragon 3: Year o/t Dragon Protection Fix & PAL/NTSC Selector

I tried all the patches on the site none work 4 me.

Oh well never mind i suppose ill have to live with it.

Thanx anyway guys.

hq105862 30-04-2002 14:17

yes the paradox patch rings a bell.

But none of the non-100% patches I tried resulted in a lock-up to my recollection.

You should try the cloneCD site for compatible drives. The one I bought was the cheapest around (mitsumi) and does the job luvvly jubbly.

No more patches for me...
