Boot CD for selfbootable Disc's?

Hi!

Bought a pre-owned Japanese Dreamcast with lots of selfbootable games not long ago. The console broke and I bought a new one, this time a european console which is 2 years old. Unfortunately the selfbootable games that worked with my Japanese console doesn't work on my European console. The games which need the Boot CD, all works all right. As a real beginner to DC games I wonder:

- Is there any kind of Boot CD that I could use to play the selfbootable games.

- If not, can I change the 1st_read.bin file and then copy the CD's to a new CD, or do I need to download ISO's (never done either of this)

- If anyone has any other idea.

Any help apprecieted

I think your problem is some kind of PAL protection. You should try PAL Patcher : http://megagames.com/dc/dc_utils_patch.shtml

Which games don't work ?

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out striaght away

Examples on games that don't work is:
Crasy Taxi 2
Soul Calibur
Powerstone 2
Virtua Tennis 2
Shenmue 2
Sonic 2
NHL 2K
Track & Field 2
NBA 2K2

I was however surprised to see just 10min ago, that some games I never play actually worked. The following games worked:
Donald duck Quack attack
Record of lodoss wars
Illbleed
Quake III Arena
Jetski

The Dreamcast is reading/checking the CD's that don't work for a very long time. Between 1 and 2 minutes. Sometimes even longer. Then they simply return to the main screen and when you press PLAY it asks you to insert a game cd.

Big thanks

That sounds weird...
Actually, all these games work on my european (French) DC, even the Japanese version of Crazy Taxy 2.

Maybe your DC is a bit old, and the lazer is "tired"...
Are all your CDs the same (I mean trademarks are different ?) ?

My CD's are of different trademarks, but I can't find any similarity with the CD's that do work.

I guess there was no easy solution to this after all then. That's a pity. Just wish that it ain't the laser again. Have already had one broken Dreamcast the last 2 months ;)
