I've looked at the Acer CDW-1208A
dont look grab it!
i've got it and live is beautiful
btw the acer can't read subs so you need a good
reader also!!!!
if you want a burner that can do everything i mean good reading and writing it is'nt out there !
i suggest a toshiba for reading and a acer for burning
this combination can do all protections on the market for pc and psx
btw the xm6602 is very good even faster than my xm6702b

can I make a suggestion go for LG. I just bought one CED-8120B and it reads sub codes and obviously writes them too.and the price was very good.

guy1 01-06-2001 02:49

Well I need a burner that can read sub channel data as well as sd1,sd2 for PSX & PC Backup
so im not buying the ACER 1208A even though i said in this forum i would I thought the Acer would read Subs, thats not good for a new burner? tell more about the LG doesnt it read all Sub channels like sub data and sub audio?
if so what speed is your and what model?

kurgan813 01-06-2001 18:35

the LG drive is compatible with CLONECD (####://www.elby.de/CloneCD/english/cdr_a.htm) but this link has a flag stating the drive can not do the "Correct EFM encoding"... Does anyone know what this means? Does it hamper copying a specific copy protection schemes?

burnerchief 02-06-2001 14:58

it means that it will not do sd2!

wolf 02-06-2001 23:07

I don't care what anyone says I like my LG CED-8120B(12x8x32) just fine.I made a 1:1 copy of Hitman which as you know is sd2 just upped the buffer setting in cloneCd(30014) to its full position and used my writer as my reader. Also Made a 1:1 of tribes2 which is securom. There are faster burners out their but for the price I paid I can't complain.speed for me is not an issue only quality.

guy1 03-06-2001 04:56

Wow its sounds like a good burner?
if you copied Hitman?
Does Hitman install and play from your drive? does your burner copy PSX Protected games, Like Spyro3 etc..

wolf 03-06-2001 11:14

Yes hitman installs and plays from the drive(no patches) as for PSX don't know don't have one.I only use it for PC stuff apps and games.

kurgan813 03-06-2001 19:14

FYI...

I could copy hitman with my original Safe Disc CDRW setup (toshiba XM-6702B as the reader and philips CDD3610 as the writer)... I think it was an early SD2... I could not copy Red Alert 2 with the same setup... Have you tried a game like Red Alert 2 on the Drive? I just think the test is not accurate with regard to SD2... If you have red alert 2 and can copy it...great... I am in baby!

If I get the ACER drive, is my Toshiba XM-6702B still a good reader for SD2 copying?

Thanks,

I have a mitsumi CR-4804TE 4x4x24
this is one of the clone cd recomended standalone drives

I have managed to cloned every psx game ive ever tried even protected titles.

however with sd2 so far my clones only work in the drive itself and not in normal readers although i will experiment with settings soon
