if you are not gonna play the avi's onto a dvd player or anything, you could rar them. or you could create vcd's out of them all. whatever suits ur fancy

Download Nandub, load the avi, video and audio to directstream copy, press home, Ctrl + Shift + J, set size, end, F7, save the avi first part, repeat for second set

Better choice

:o DVDCutter Stream and Mp3CDWav Converter maybe a better choice and has a lot of other interesting features as well.
You can download it in www.jummpa.com

instead of rerncoding the whole movie you should try "virtual dub" and cut out the intro and end credits, sometimes this gets it down under 650 mb
adios

for further information about splitting avis with virtualdub go here : http://www.doom9.org/virtualdub_procedures.htm
It explains many of virtualdubs proceedures so it's a must read for those you don't know the program.
