what are the best cd-roms for reading all types of data?

i am looking for those cd-roms which can read all subchannel data to use with clonecd

Toshiba cd-rom drives are well suited for reading sub-channel data (I have an old 24x model that does this fine).

In clonecd, look under "hardware requirements". There's a large table that recommends what works best. Toshiba come highly rated - even gives specific models if you can get your hands on them.

I guess there's still a good reason for having both a writer and a seperate reader these days!

The most popular drive in the UK (at the largest computer markets at least), is the Creative Labs 52x CD-ROM, and also a 48x Sony. However I don't know how good they are at full RAW read. They are very cheap though and very reliable (both are under £29 UK).

Hope this helps.

All the best.

hi

toshibas are near impossible to get in oz.......but i can tell you that the creative 52X is a no go........they don't read sc data at all.......but still a great rom regardless

i flashed my acer dvd 1640A to a pioneer 115 firm 1.22 rpc-1............and guess what.........she reads all

woo hoo!

no need for a new cd-rom.........i'm still stoked

thanks for the reply

Lo,

As the others have advised, you would be best getting a Toshiba, or Teac's can do the job you require. I have a Teac, its an old x32 but the newer x40 does the job as well. All toshiba drives are very well endorsed - Rom or DVD.

Hope This proves to be useful 2 ya.
