I feel stupid asking, but what's a fixed exe file? I know what no-cd cracks and backup fixes are, but what exactly does a fixed exe do?

A fixed exe has the protection stripped from it - so the game doesn't have a cd-check or whatever at the start.

Note: A lot of fixed are also NO-CD as most games today only want the cd to make sure it's real and not to get data from them.
