a burner that reads safedisk etc?

Hi,

I'm finally going to upgrade my Philips 3210 burner, a relic that goes at double speed and rarely works anyway. Now it's got worse, so time to bin it.

My DVD drive is a Pioneer AO10 - pretty sure from my research that this means it can't read Safedisk 2.0 and friends with CloneCD (forgive me, I know not the jargon).
However, in all other respects I really like this drive, and will not be getting rid of it.

So, what I need, is an IDE burner that not only writes tricky CDs like Op Flashpoint or MoH but also can read them first. If you follow me.

Thanks very much for any advice...

I know for sure that the lite-on 24102b will do the job!
I hear the other lite-ons 32x and 40x will also do the job.
Read vluka's compatable burners post and decide for yourself.
Good luck.

Oh, I was looking at Lite-on ones, that'd be good news. So using the Lite-on I can read the CD using CloneCD and then also write it?

I was under the impression that vluka's thread was all about writing the CD, not actually extracting the image from the original CD too. I'll go check again, thanks!

You can use clonecd to make the image and write the image also.

Sounds good. I know the software does it. However, I've read that almost all CD-ROM/RW drives do not read safedisk correctly due to a shortcut taken by the manufacturers - it's how safedisk works. Are you sure I can use the Liteon writers to actually create the image from?

Thanks.

Your thinking about cdroms the lite on will read to a image just fine! I always use my writer to read.

RIght, well, that sounds like what I'm after then, thanks!

the reading problem usually isnt in the hardware, its in the software. reading with nero and things like that will automatically fill in the errors registered on a safedisc cd with null code. clonecd and its many counterparts read the data RAW, which means that the errors stay errors. if your cd writer can correctly re-encode the errors as they were (which the lite-on is a pro at), then you have a perfect copy.

Right then, thanks to both of you. I think I'll shortly be the owner of a 32x Liteon burner...

Thanks to all

I am new to this forum and would like to say that I have been able to decide on the Lite On 2410 2B. Thanks to all the helpful users of this forum.
