plex 12/10/32A - firmware 1.04 myth??
i am new to this 'copying' game but have seen lots of posts about firmware from 1.05 onwards not being able to copy certain trypes of security - although Plextor seem to deny that there is any such problem, or if there is that its with the CD copy software and not their firmware
i have 1.05 and have just made a backup copy of Unreal Tournament which uses SafediskR2 security. Just installed it and played it - no problems - didn't need to have the CD in for the game to work - is this usual? i could however only install it from my CDRW drive as my old DVD/CD drive had problems reading it have seen another post like this somewhere so maybe newer firmware versions are ok - wot u think? so is the story about versions 1.05 onwards being crap a myth, or have i totally lost the plot :( |
Hi Diss,
The thing with firmware 1.05 ist this: Models with low TLA# can be downgraded to firmware 1.00 (you can find this number on the topside of your plex). Some people say, that with firmware 1.00 - 1.04 you can copy Safedisk2 protected games. Higher TLA`s (like 0306) cannot downgrade below 1.05 and only few can make perfect copies of SD2 ("perfect" means, you can use them in any other drive). For all other copy-protections, it doesn`t matter which firmware you have, you can make perfect 1:1 backups. Regarding SD2: Only Philips and Phillips-based writers (like Acer) can make perfect copies of SD2 |
