cannot identify cdrw

Hi, is there a utility that will identify my cdrw?, it came with a new pc from pc world (everex p4 2gig pc), there are no markings on the writer other than 24x10x40x, i have removed it from the everex pc and replaced it with my liteon ( so the kids can burn cd's ) i now have this one in my own pc but cdrwin etc dont see it as a writer, device manager simply identifies it by the above speed ratings??

thanks, the nero file doesnt work though (error in "unknown") clone cd works ok but doesnt come up with a manufacturer name, just the speed rating, must be a really cheap writer :)

cdrw identity

Hi Harry_b

If you still need to identify your CDRW go to control panel on your PC, select system, device manager,CD Rom then click on your CDRW ... in the properties box select General and it should tell you the make and model of your CDRW.

You have probably got it sorted by now but it was the thought eh !!

Hi Rocol, even in device manager its listed simply as 24x10x40x, no manufacturer name etc, cd writer came with the everex p4 2ghz pc from pc world (£899), problrm is that cdrwin doesnt recognize it as a cd writer, neither does ez cd creator, papayech tunespark sees it ok and fireburner, though with fireburner the speeds i can use are only 1x and max.

Is the FCC ID number sticker still on the unit? If so, you can try going to http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/ - enter the FCC ID ...if you get lucky it will give you the make and model. Good luck!
