Hey Wasabi - I've heard positive things about it so far browsing through the forum, but have no experience with it myself. I was going to get one for a friends that I modded, but it ended up he didn't have a v5, (the whole "screw" thing in the expansion bay). I've actually just installed my first NEO2.5, and everything works (CDR - PSX, PS2 and Originals) except the DVD-R so far... I've come to find out that the GS v2.01 could be the problem, so I found a v1.9 today, and will let you know how that goes... There seems to be a lot of parameters to keep in mind with all of these different options.

Works great, so far everything loads, cdr and dvd-r. It does have a problem playing dvd rips with large TOC. This may be important if you rely on ripping dvd to cdr but so far i would say i like the r mod better than my PS2 modded with the 2.5 dvd chip. it seems to load faster and dvd-r's will boot using any GS2 V1.93 or better, The dvd chip works with the GS2 1.93 only.
