Stronghold (new exe patch)
 

I have stronghold and have made a backup of it using CloneCd. Unfortunatley my burner doesn't do some of the stuff the Clone can.
I installed the copy ok, without problems, but when I came to play it, the game asked for the CD to be ejected and reinserted. (Yes, it did spend some time trying to copy the first few sectors of the CD.)
I have run the original game patch version 1.1 as instructed on GCW
and downloaded the Stronghold.exe.

However when I copy the Stronghold.exe from GCW the extension format is .ace

So replacing the original Stronghold.exe with a file called
dvn-sh11.ace obviously doesn't work, even after changing the .ace to .exe it doesn't want to play.

Anyone got any ideas how this might work or what has gone wrong?

Play Instructions:
Install the game - Full Installation.
Apply the official Stronghold v1.1 Patch.
Replace the original STRONGHOLD.EXE executable with the one from the Executable Archive.
Play the Game!

mmmh okay ....hrmm...erm

The file you downloaded is packed with winace (a packer like winzip, maybe you heard of). In this packed file is the *.exe which you have to replace with the original one. To unpack the file, download WinAce from www.winace.com.
