CD-R dye color quality; affect CD-r lasers?
I just bought a $10.00 50 pack of Primaris 16x CD-R's (Primaris is a sub-company/branch of of Imation) with a green tint, and I'm having second thoughts on using them on my new CD-R. Before doing anything with them, I was wondering if someone can answer a question for me:
I know that the green backed ones (Cyanine dye) are the cheapest quality, but it doesn't matter because, well, I got what I paid for. BUT, I heard that green backed CD-R's can damage your CD-R Rom's laser lens, is this true?? (It's said that the green backed ones emit an invisible gas when it reaches a certain temperature that can damage your lens.) |
Green-backs??? I haven't seen a single Gold/Green CD-R for at least two years now!!!
If you mean Silver/Silver or Gold/Gold Phthalocyanine CD-Rs, they do NOT damage your CD-R drive and they're perfectly okay to use in any CD-Recorder. In fact, if you have a faster 12x, 16x, 20x, or 24x burner, Gold dye or Silver dye is better for the recorder because it is designed for higher recording speeds. Hope that answers your question, FireBurner |
