Traxdata Silver - Bad?

Hello fellow burners,

Just bought 50 80min Traxdata silvers - not cased, but housed in cardboard-type holders. They cost £15 here in the UK.

I've tried to use them on my Traxata 8432+ writer at 8x. No such joy, depiste the drive being fairly new and having the latest firmware (v2.5). The drive is fine. it's just that when I put these discs in I get a clicking noise, as if the drive is having trouble finding something. The green read LED just won't stop flashing. Of the cd's that are recognised, I get burn errors after about 15sec. This has NEVER happened before, even with Traxdata cd's that I usuall get boxed.

I think I may have bought a bunch of coasteres.

Iv'e got the same discs yet cased from a previous purchase and these work 100% fine. The same goes for EVERY other brand of disc I've tested.

Anyone else had the same trouble with these cd's?

If I get any feedback from traxdat.com or the person I bought them off, I'll post it ASAP.

Well I took these duds back.

The guy I returned them to was very surprised to say the least. Insisted that it must be my writer, despite me informing him that the boxed versions of the SAME disc have never failed once (out of 300), and that the writer can burn to EVERY other brand Iv'e used (many).

However he did me a deal on some boxed one's that weren't that much more expensive. Guess what? Not one bad one.

Tried getting into the Traxdata site but it's been down for a while.

Strange isn't it?

Perhaps Ritek has somthing to do with this. Wouldn't surprise me at all given their track record..

So if anyone else has the same problem with using unboxed Traxdata 16x media, try the boxed one's and you'll get some joy. Now, what to fill those fifyty blanks with..

Anyone know what the deal is with Traxdata.com?

The site's been down ages..

I tried to burn all of the 50 cased blanks.

44 burned o.k. and the remaining 6 had the same problems as the one's I took back. On the whole I'm happy but am still interested to find out why some of these discs are bad when burned at any speed.

My writer burns EVERY other brank o.k. so I'm pretty sure it could be a bad batch of these blanks. FOr what it's worth the number on the discs is 03411915 00681/R020-0013-5301.

Traxdata was sold/taken over by a German company, E&K DATA, back in July....
