Descent Freespace 1.06

The crack works for version 1.0, but does not work for version 1.06 (English). Can anyone help?

This game is protected with SafeDisc 1.

So you can use UnSafeDisc 1-55 (Link --> see on Top of this site) and make a fixed EXE.
You only need the GAME.EXE, GAME.ICD & DPLAYERX.DLL from the game !!!

Game is protected with CD-checks only...
Patch and go GCW or astalavista.box.sk for a crack.
I`m playing this game from backups without ANY cracks..

Have a nice day/////

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but this relates to what I wanted to ask...

Okay, my old copy of this is rather marked up so I bought the newer jewel cases dual pack with Silent Threat. Just wondering, does anyone know what protection the expansion pack uses and whether there is a NO-CD patch for it. Hopefully, at the very least, the UnSafeDisc software will work on this as well, don't want to use the CDs but to install the games.

BTW, anyone know if they can have a full install off the CDs. I recall the movies playing off the CDs, but don't want to use them if necessary. Guess i can always burn temp copies to play the game. Oh well, thanks all! :)

Bump...

So, how the heck does one remove CD checks anyway? Nothing is working over here!

Try using PID to find the protection. Look at the sticky on the forum.

sabbey 14-05-2005 14:13

Already did, there are only CD Checks...

Just wondering, now that we know what it is, how does one remove it? ;)

EDIT: Just ran another scan, it seems there are a few checks, not just on the main game exe. I can post a copy/paste of the scan here if needed! Thanks all!

Okay, it appears that the game utility Un-CDCheck v1.0, worked in removing the checks in the exes. Haven't looked into seeing how to remove it from the patchw32.dll file though...

Actually, I did use notepad to find it within the file, but don't know whether removing it will effect it, in a problematic way or not though. I had to do a system restore since the only crack I found for the game gave my PC a headache. I will check this out more once I get the game re-installed.

Hi sabbey,

Errr, I don't understand what you wanna do with patchw32.dll... It is the core of the .RTPatch binary file patching system, see http://www.rtpatch.com for more infos. Just thought I'd mention... ;)

What my learned friend forgot is, the dll file could possibly be the real game executable and the exe is a loader.

sabbey 17-05-2005 09:23

I don't know, this is the first time I have done anything to a DLL file. All I know is, it has a CD check...

According to PID:

Scanning -> C:\Games\FreeSpace\patchw32.dll
File Type : Dll, Size : 142336 (022C00h) Bytes
[!] Possible CD/DVD-Check String -> Insert Disk
- Scan Took : 0.969 Seconds

I made a back-up of the file, guess I can just remove the text within notepad and see what happens... ;)

Hi sabbey,

Look at the Properties sheet of patchw32.dll. Mine says:

File Version: 8.0.0.0
Description: RTPatch Executable
Copyright: (C) Copyright Pocket Soft, Inc., 2003. All Rights Reserved.

What does yours say?

By the way, "hiding" the main software as a patching system DLL could be a good idea but I don't think it is so as, after having a look at it, a cracker could find that out in around 10 seconds anyway... ;)

Joe

Nahh it wont work that way, and it does look like the dll is not the exe due to size, but it contains the cd check routine im sure.

Joe Forster/STA 17-05-2005 10:07

Hey sabbey,

Can you, please, zip up that patchw32.dll and send it to me in an attachment (see my E-mail address below)? Thanks in advance,

Joe
