AND I HAVE ONLY (FORTUNATELY) A BACK UP.

HOW DO I PLAY ON THE INTERNET, NOW?

As you obviously have your serial no from the original how does this stop you from playing online ? unless of course you never owned the original.

Of course I do have the serial from the case, but I'm talking about the back up.
It does not let me to play on-line

The multiplayer mode doesn't have a cd ch-e-ck at all, the disc is only required for single player mode.

If you use a crack, just remove it.

just install hl,update it to newest version,install cs if you wanna play cs.insert cd and connect to a server you like.....
still rofl :D

right m8 if you have a back up install halflife then enter cd key
exit game
then update halflife to official patch v43/1.1.0.6 patch then you can play on line but
not offline
if you want to play counterstrike then u will have to install it and update to v1.1
the only prob is if your on 56k its gonna take along time m8 as the files are huge
better off buyin an pc gamers mag get it off disks
