USBmod problem?

Hey guys.. this is extremely frustrating. This is probably a stupid question, but I just wanna make sure? I have a usbmod with GS2 v2 (what they sent w/ it). I connected the 1-wire and closed it up. It won't load backups for either of my ps2/ps1 games? It won't even bring up the GS2 PS1 disc. It just brings up the red screen asking for ps2 format disc?? Did I just not connect it right, or is there more? I know I put it on the right points tho??? Also, the top USB slot only activates the mod if it's in about half-way? ne1 know the boot method for usbmod & gs2 v2? This is drivin me crazy... I can't figure this one out?
Help me pl3333z3!!!

Try pluging the mod in the top port then try to boot a PSX backup by turning on the chip, inserting the backup and press reset. Just because the light on the chip doesn't stay on or blink doesn't mean the chip isnt working. Also if you have a V5 console you will need a GS2 v 1.93 or better to play backups.

I tried the PS1 backup and it did the same thing (Red PS2 format screen). I have a 3001 v4. Funny thing, now the light stays on (the mod when all the way in top port). Would the mod light up even if it wasn't installed right? (or is it just from the power?). I don't think it has nething to do with the boot disc (GS2 v2), cuz it won't even load psx back-ups? What I can't figure out is why it won't load the GameShark2 PS1 cd either? It asks for a ps2 format cd... I've seen around that there are different methods (timing) for things like turning on the mod.. ejecting... waiting to hit x... Not hitting x, but another combo of buttons? I'm totally lost for the first time in my gaming life... =(
appreciate the help just the same tho!!!

If you are sure the wire is connected to the correct pin's (without any excess solder bridging any points) but are still unable to play PSX backups then it may be the usb chip it'self. By the way, will original games load?? or is it just backups that are giving you trouble?
